THE PROOF.
‘The fact that farming lande in Yuba and Sutter counties are advancing
in price does not bear out the statements made by the anti miners that
slickens is causing the destruction
of “that part of the State. Those . places along the rivers that have
been buried out of ‘sight were never
of much real value, because of their
low location and consequent liability
‘to floods. No ‘clear-headed farmer
would ‘ever have settled on themmining or no mining. The victims ol
their own bad judgment make. 2
‘scapegoat of the hydraulic minereSome otf the anti-miners may be fool”
ish enough to believe they are por
@uing a just course, but many of
them who make the loudest noise
have joined in and are keeping up
the crusade in hopes that they may,
by imposing upon the credulity of
their fellow citizens, make a few dol
lars for themselves. The honest
grtangers are beginning to get thei:
eyes open, and their purse strings
are less lax than of yore, despite
the frantic appeals of the Bee and
Appeal and the lawyers for more

A Cattle Market.
Several enterprising citizens have
itn contemplation to establish a
cattle market in Grass Valley. The
idea is tu secure grounds of sufficient
size upon which te erect the necessary stables and sheds, for shelter, and
to have state 1 daysof the week where
buyers and eellera can resort for the
‘ pale of beef cattle, sheep, hogs, or
milch cows, By this means persons
having such stock to sell and. those
wishing to buy could always be accomodated, and not depend so much
upon hap-hazard chances as now. It
would he the means of bringing sellers and*buyers together at a fixed
place and time, and it is “believed
such an establishmeut would soombecome popular. In England and Ireland cattle markets arecovduct don
this plan,as well as in the large} ities
at the East.—Union.
