ULOcaL INTELLIGHNOR.A REAL Down.—Twowanguinary Frenchmen, residing at North Bloomfield, in this
county, went out on Sunday last and
fought a ‘dutlnear that place. A dispute
arose between Shuchet and. Picard in relation to an account of $14,which the former
claimed to have against the latter. This
resulted in the sending of a challenge
which was accepted. ‘The, preliminaries
were arranged, and the weapons chosen
were Colt’s six-shooters. The principals
and seconds repaired to the field, and the
latter, desiring to prevent the effusion of
blood,capped the weapons and loaded them
‘The prinei-.
pals were stationed and the fight commenced, but the principals discovered the
trick of the seconds; and as their wrongs . were too deep to be healed by the snapping of acap, they determined to fight:
“without seconds. The pistols ware loaded
for “deadly work” and the parties repajred to the field alone, determined each to
_ live. or die in defenge of liis honor, as fate
~ decreed. Taking distance at twenty-five
paces, the fight commenced, the parties
firing rapidly and~ advancing. One of the}
parties fired six shots and the other five,
the cap snapping ‘in one case. Suchet
then advanced upon his antagonist and
beat him over the head with the butt ‘of
' his pistol until he was nearly dead, Picard had a gash around the head which
might have been made by a ball. Save
_,this, neither. party was injured by the fir‘ing. ‘Picard was found” by some persons
from town leaning against a fence, almost
insensible from the effects—ef-the whipping he received.
OFFICERS OF THE FirtH REGIMENT.—

Major, Lieut. Walling of Rough & Ready;
Quartermaster’s Sergeant, A. W. Potter.
This completes the officers of the Regiment. We understand that it ig the purpose of the Colonel to order an encampment
of the Regiment some time next Spring.
