The “Bee” asa Protectionist.
The San Francisco Daily Exchange
says: The Sacramento Bee says there
State should keep on growing wheat,
The Bee aidedin killing the hydraulic mining industry, which,’more than
any ether cause, precipitated the
hard times this State is now enduring, and now it wants to kill another great industry, that of wheat growing. We have not read in full the
Bee’s argument in favor of the ‘suppression of wheat growing; it is not
necessary to read it. We know by
inspiration that the Bee means that
the giving up of the fields to wheat
is an outrage on the waternelon industry in Sacramento backyards, because if people could not get flour
they would eat watermelons, and
thus Sacramento’s chief industry
would be benefitted. The Bee is
thoroughly a Protectionist newspaper.

indorse and reaffirm the National platform
of the Republican party, adopted at its Cone,. Vention, recently held in Chicago, and we

which has been constantly supported by
the Republican party since its foundation,
our varied industries have been fostered

the world, and the whole country has
achieved unparalleled prosperity. We de~
nounce the free trade policy which the Democratic party has advocated since 1840 as
dangerous to the well-being of American
labor, We arraign the Democratic party of
California for supporting the National
Democratic party, which stands upon a platform that declares, in effect, for the freetrade doctrine of tariff for revenue only, as
