FRIDAY, SEPT.26, 1884. GOT TO PAY THEM. . The Supreme Court has decided for the second time that the bondholders of Sacramento shall not be ewinthe first decision was rendered against the city, the Bee, in ite usnal bloviating snd bombastic etyle, denounced the Supreme Court in the strongest of terms, and went still further by defying the parties plaintiff to collect the money if they could. It-advised the City Trustees to see that there was no money in the fund applicable to the , payment of the bonds, and net pay them ander any circumstances, and then asked the question, ‘‘If we won't pay what are you going to do about it?’ The Bee’s course in thie-matter is as contemptible as its attitade has been tocision has been rendered against tke _ the following from the Bee: ‘This morning Judge Denson, attorney for Daniel Meyer and other bondholders, gave to the City Trustees a certified copy of the judgment of the Supreme ‘Court, rendered September 10th, denying a motion for a new trial in the bond suit which, some weeks ago, resulted in a writ of mandate directing the Trustees to levy a tax of $1 onthe $100 for the General Fund, and to pet apart 55 per centam thereof for __. the Sinking and Interest Fund. The Mayor remagked that the writ must certainly be obeyed, and asked the attorney if he desired to have the levy made to-day. Judge Denson replied that he could make no such imperative demand as that. [Trus_ tee Guteuberg said they ought to wait until after the Fair,. and the Mayor seeined willing to wait. Judge Denson then explained that last year only 50 cents on the $100 was levied for the General Fond, that 55 per centam of that, which he says is now in the treasury, goes to the Sinkiag and Interest Fund, and for that-year 50 cents more must be levied and the same proportion of it go to the same fund, He said that no action had been pressed in regard to the levy this year, but though he had not seen the decision, he understood that by the ruling of the Court that one dollar must.also be levied for this year, and 55 per centum go into the a the Trustees arranged only for enough * to pay the estimated 55 per centuth into the latter fund, the bondholders could not object. This last statement was in resp6fiee to a question : ” ot one eed ‘the honest bonanuiuers are about to receive their money after years of litigation, for henceforth. Sacramento will have less money to squander on button-holed boquet spies and employing liars at large salariés te squelch the mining interest which has made California what itie today. The day of retribution for the anti-miners will surely come in some way or another, bn . {FEELING THE EFFECT. Next to the towns where hydraulic mining was carried on, San Francisco is the greatest sufferer by the stopping of the mines which have heretofore taid in its lap over one million of dollars worth of bullion per month, or in round numbers filteen millions of dollars per annum. This has now been withdrawn, and the Board of Trade is looking around to ascertain the cause of the dimiuution of trade and scarcity of gold in San Francisco, That body seems to be obtuse, for it is apparent to every body else that the dullness of times in the State is largely attributable to Lorenzo Sawyer’s decree prohibiting the taking out of the untold millions which can only be brought into use by the hydraulic process, Although receiving our bullion, the merchants of San Francisco have never even said one favorable word for the-mining interest, much lesa putting their hands into their pockets and aiding in the stupendous fignt which has been and is being waged agait: _.< miners. We are surprised to think that such papers as the Evening Post of that city have not put the Board of Trade on the scent for the cause of the depressien in trade, Perhaps that the august and supposet. or ought to be, sharpest usiness men there, do not care to be enlightened upon the subject. dled ont of their honest dues, When . wards the miners. Most, EffeecNCENTRATOR ee HOF THE KIND NOW IN USE, Adapted to al! grades wndelasaes of Ors, This machine has been thoroughly tested for the past two years under a great variety of conditions giving most extraordinary results, far in advance of anything ever before realized ji A recent competitive tests made with the Frue at the Carlisle mine, in New Mexico, showed an advantage of 30 per cent. in favor of theDuncan. The amount saved over the Frue being sufficient to pay the entire cost of the machiues nearly every month of the ear, & ‘ The following is an enumeration of its many advantages over all other similar machines: 1. Its cost is not more than half that of any other of equal capacity, and the weight is nearly 1,000 pounds less, thus greatly reduciag the cost of transportation. 2. The expense of setting up in running order is not-more than one-third that of the Frue, or any other belt machine, much less —* and timber work being necessary. 8. The expenditure for repair is not more than one-fifth that of any other belt machine, and they will last fully three times as long, working under the same conditions. 4. Not more than one-half the space is required—a point of great importance where a considerable number are uced. 5: No special skill and very little care is necessary to hg sree ih, 6, Nomore water is required than is furnished by the batteries. ‘ 7. It savesall theamalgam, old ur silver, that escapes the batteries, pans or settlers, ITS INVALUABLE FEATURE, and claimed by noother, making the machine worth more than it costs 1or this purpose alone, 8. Amuch coarser grade of ore can be handled successfully than by any other machine —#* great advantage in many instances where fine crushing is not ry to eliminate the mineral. 9. It has no small and delicate mechanism, requiring nice adjustment and the closest attention —an insuperable objection to all belt and other forms of machines, making them wholly unfit for the rough service ofa quartz mill, 10. Great simplicity of truction andsmall number of wearing parts. The whole machine is comprised in seventeen pieces, only three of which are subject to any especial wear, and these can be replaced ata nominal cost. The Frue has’ 113 pieces, and some similar machines many more, making’a complication of parts that involves constant repair and great expenses in this way, as wellas in loss of time. We areaware that the most sweeping and pretentious claims are made for nearly every concentrator in the market, but it is a well-known fact that the results of their operation have not in any instance made good these claims, The advantages here set forch for the began as wellas the statements made, we are prepared to’ substantiate by actual workng results.
