“LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
THE DUELISTs IN PRison.—Souchett
and Picard, the two Frenchmen who
fought a duel at North Bloomfield, were
arrested and taken before Justice Carter,
on Tuesday, and tried upon two charges.
The prosecution was conducted by Distri¢t
Attorney Caldwell. The first charge was
ae nlawfully assembly together by previous agreement, and fighting to the great
terror of the citizens of the Town of North
Bloomfield, and to the great terror to the
citizens of this State, with pistels loaded
with powder and leaden bullets, the place
where they assembled being a public place.”
For this they were each sentenced to seven days imprisonment in the County Jail.
. ¢ They.were each also charged with assault,
and Picard was sentenced to 20 dayson the
latter charge, and Souchett to 21. The sentence of the Justice is very mild when the
enormity of the crime is considered, and it
is hardly equal, as Picard was very badly .
beaten, while the big fellow escaped with
little or no injury. The parties were
brought down by Deputy Sheriff A. W.
_, Potter,on Tuesday night.and lodged in.
the county jail.
Cai.D DrowNED.—On last Monday
morning, a child of George Creamer of San
Juan, was drowned, under the following
circumstances: While the mother was engaged in hanging up clothes in the yard,
the child, which was abouta year and a
half ‘old, was left, in-the kitéhen, where a
wash-tub containing a considerable quantity of water, was left on the floor. It is
supposed that the little one was playing in
the water, dnd in leaning over, lost its ballance and fell into the tub. The mother
was so terrified on entering the room, that
instead of assisting the child she ran to
her husband who was near at hand. The
child was insensible when taken out, and
although Drs. Guffin and Farley, who were
ealled in, used every means to resuscitate
it, their efforts were of no avail.
FATAL MINING ACCIDENT.—William’
Henderson was killed by the caving of a
bank in the American claims at Sebastopol, Bridgeport township, on last Monday
The pipes had been turned off, and“Henderson, who had been at work in the sun,
sat down under the shade ef the embankment. He had only been sitting there a
few moments, when the men warned him
that the bank was caving. He sprang forward to escape, but was caught by the
falling mass and buried, He was rescued
as soon as possible, but was so horribly
mangled that he died after an hour’s suffering. Deceased was abont 60 years of
of age, and is well known on the Ridge to
~ Rearly every one as “Uncle Billy” Henderson. ;
Rosa CELESTE.—The intrepid funambuliste, M’lle: Rosa Celeste, will give a
performance in this city on Friday evening.
Her extraordinary feats-upon the wire and
tight rope have made her known over the
world, She performed the wonderful feat
of walking from Seal Rock to the Cliff
House, and also the greater one of wheeling a wheelbarrow over a tight rope with
® man weighing one hundred and ten
pounds in it. Rosa Celeste is a beautiful
young lady of eighteen, and she js unsurpassed by any funambulist of the pres‘ent day. On Friday evening she will .
walk the entire length of the Theatre up.
on a rope, and wheel a wheelbarrow over
it, besides performing a number of graceful and hazardous feats upon the wire.—
On Sunday next she will perform at the
Glenbrook Park. The admission to the
Performance is 50 cents. Let there be a
full house at the Theatre to-morrow eveSix PagEs.—On account of the rush of
advertisements we are compelled to add
two pages to the TRANSCRIPT this morning. It will be.seen that Banner appeffrs

Whether inherent, in the system or produced by

Nothing that is not wholesome, genial and _restorative in. jts nature enters into the componiiian.
of HOS'TETTER’S STOMACH BITTERS. This
popular preparation contains no mineral of any
kind, no deadly botanical element ; no fierce excitant ; but it is a combination of the extracts of
rare balsamic herbs and plants w th the purest
and mildest of all diffusive stimulants, .
‘The weak stumach is capialy invigorated ‘and
the appetite restored by this agreeabie ‘Tonic and
hence it works wonders in case of Dyspepsia and
‘jn less confirmed forms of indigestion. Acting
as a getitle and painless aperient, as well as upon
the liver, it also invariably relieves the constipation superinduced by irregular action of the digesvive organs. :
The agony of Bilious colic ig immedisnely assuaged by a single dose of the stimulant, and by
occasionally resorting to it, the return of the
complaint may be prevented. :
As a Generai Tonic, HOSTETTER’S BITTERS
produce effects which must be experienced or
witnessed before they'can be fully appréciated.
in case-of Constitutional Weakness, Premature
Decay and Debility and Decrepitude arising from
old age, it exercises #n electric influence. “In the
convatesent stages of all diseases it operates as u
delightfwrinvigorant, When all the powers of
nature w ¢ relaxed, it operates to re-inforce and
re-establish them. es ‘
Last, but not least, it is the only safe stimulant,
being manufactured from sound and inocyuous materiais, wid entirely free from the acid elements
present more or less in all the ordinary tonics and
stomachics of the day.
No family medicine has been so ppbrerssliy.
