The Trustees of the Nevada Library
‘Association met on last Saturday evening to hear the semi-annual report of
‘the Librarian, and consider the condition of the library. 8. J. Hinds, the
Librarian, reported the amount, collected, $423 60, and the number of books
in the library as follows :

Yesterday -afternoon a little girl,
daughter of Thomas M. Barr, who resides at the Pittsburg mine, while on
her way from school, stubbed her tve
against. a stone which was loosened.
On examination it was found to bea
piece of float quartz about an inch and
half thick and two inches and a half
wide, literally filled with gold specks
about’ the size of bird shot. It is probably worth $20 or $30. That wasa

Case of John Lyons, ;
The case of John Lyons, charged
_ with threatening the life ot Bridget
Lyons, was investigated before Justice
Caldwell, yesterday, for the purpose of
ascertaining whether defendant should
be bound over to keep the peace. J. I.
Caldwell appeared for the prosecution
and Williams & Johnson for the defense, A large number of witnesses
from Washington, where the parties
reside, were present. The defendant
was discharged.
Eureka.
The Eareka District is improving
considerably, and Graniteville has a
good prospect before it. Black & Co’s.
mill ig runing constantly and crushing
first rate rock. The Erie Co. has out
150 or 160 tons of rock, and will start
the battery during the present week.
The Birchville Company are sinking,
and expect to strike the ledge very
soon. There is a general improvement
in mining matters in that locality. .
New Quartz Mill.
The Metropolitan quartz mine is located between Moore’s Flat and Or
leans Flat. They have a first rate
ledge and a considerable quantity of
good rock out. The new double battery mill is about completed and will
start up next week, ;
Personal,
John W. Robb, Supervisor elect of
the Third District, was in town yesterday. Mr. Robb is one of the pioneers
of Nevada county, and will make a
good officer. During his stey here he
will qualify and be ready te enter upon
his duties the first ef November, at the
beginning of next term.
Getting out of the Cold.
The dreves of cattle and horses that
have been in the mountains
during the heated term, are daily pagsing through this city on their way to
the foot hills. The nights are getting
very cold in the mountains, and cattle
owners want to get their stock below
before the storms come on.
