much as to whether the applicant

gradually died out since ther. Trustoes are looking for. teachers with

along. ° Itis a fact that ‘some senseless questions have been propounded by the State Board of Examination in past years, but a majority of
the papers issued from that body
have been fair. It.is. also trae, that
if there was any unfairness on the
part of the Board, there has been
certificates to teach. During the
past two or more years, the printed
questions have been obtained by
some means, aud many applicants
obtained them in advance of examimations, The present Board concluded to break the evil up, and
with that view have had the questions printed at different offices, and

examination, This did bresk up
the evil, but it makes those. squirm
who are affected by it, and that was
what they were Going when they
went after the State Board so lively
at San Francisco. We hope the
same course will be pursued, howevervand that the present howl will
not deter the Board from performing
their fnll duty. We believe they
now propose to print some simple
questions each time, for third grade
applicants, and have them #0 easy
that almost any school girl can obtain acertificate. This is what the

that Sacramentans are proud of, their
city, and we do not blame them for
it. It is a beautifal place, but in our
opinion rather inclined to be-a dull

State Superintendent,
State Supérintendent Carr, we understand, will devote considerable
time hereafter in lecturing to the
people of the State. Mrs, Carr, his
deputy, has jast returned from a visit
tennial, and will be able to assume
some of his office duties so as to enable him-tespare the time. We
hope the Dr. can make it in his way
to deliver a lecture or two inthis
county. His talks on educational
subjects are always able, and can
not be listened towithout interest
and profit.
