W, W, CRANE, can. didate for Elector, will address the citizeas of Nevada county, as follows : ~ 9 Nevada, Monday, Oct. 3d. . North San Jaan, Tuesday, Oct. 4th. Grass Valley, Wednesday, Oct. 5th. Dory or Parriors.—There never was & time, in any country or in any age, since the id-began, which called sv loudly and earnes y for true patriotism ns does the present day. Nowhere in history, filled as it is with perpetual surprises, can you find a’ polot around whieh revolved and clasteted so many important events, no one age 80 pregnant with. interests vital to mankind, in every sphere, as citizens of a common couns try, component parts of society in its social, political, moral and business life, as the present. To few meirin any time does it ever become a duty to bear: arms and to sacrifice life in a great canse; to fewer still to fight fora cause in which they. haven common, personal interest, and to very few to become in any sense the defenders of the _ free and the liberators—of the -enslaved.— Bat in the contest in which we are engaged there is nota man in the country between the great Northern Bay and the Southern Gulf, between the Atlantic and Pacific shores, however poor, humble, or obscure, but has an interest in upholding the flag and in the preservation of the Union.— There is no man amid the filth and dirt est shaft of an uncertain mine, but ‘who has, consciously or unconsciously, a greater in. terest.in the welfare of this country than he har in the meagre income of bie trade or in the gold which he seeks. There is'no cape italist whose ships plow the waves and ‘whose merchandize fills the land but has a greater interest in the Government than he has in money or trade. There is no profes. sional man but whose interests are myste~« riously but certainly interwoven with the well being of the land in which he livea.— There is no woman whose. interest in her country is equalled by anything but her ins terest in those she loves and the children who climb her knees. If our fathers were aroused first to determined resolution and then to arme by the system of Colonial taxation, which the Mas« sachusetts House of Representatives denounced as an ‘absolute and uncontrollable power of raising money upon the people: which by the wise Constitution of Great . Britain is and canbe only lodged with ante. ty inthe Legislature.” If they would not submit to a small taxation upon the tea which they drank, does tt seem as though the most degenerate of their song would submit to dictation from a puny oligarchy or eympathise with the dispoilers of his hberty ? eteuch is the fact. In Christ's time men were found ready to deny and crucify Him,and the Judas Igcariot’s Of treason are more plenty to day than ever before, ludeed they, have chosen ae their leader one who of ‘all men cin’ the coutitry should be true to ita interests. The pet of former administrations, the man who had lavished upon hun the best opportunities of his time, the man with whom the country trusted the flower of her youth in an or ganized army, ond generously poured out upon hit her resources, and he in the end not only fails of rendering the country serView, buf accepts the leaderalip of traitors, try.ng fpanoke himself the chiet tadpole (to. he never Will become a Rood sized frog) in the dirty pool of copperhead polities. It is the bold trent aud the selid coluws which terrifies the enemy and ‘gives assurance of victory. But onee in a while » deserter comes in and reports the doings-of the company, and then, and not till then, ‘ig the truth . kKaown, Why these new discoveries are kept 80 sacred is -a mysterye Qur bankers for the pust three months have purchased more dust than at apy correapouding period, and have all the time been ignorant of the locality from ‘which it came, Among the num ber of youd ledges is the one owned by the Forest Mill Co. about a fof a wile south of this city. This ledge was discovered in May last, a will of tour stumps put up and completed in June. It has been runving ever since. Week before last they cleaned up $14,000 and last week the sum of $6,000, The first crushing yielded $75 té the ton and since that time it has varied from $60 to $103 to the ton: Their ledge last week was about four feet thick and bus nev~ er been much lees than three. They have at the Forest.Mill three men to take out the rock and two to run the mill. We ore in formed that there are any number of ledges in the vicinity whieb will pay equal to the. Foreat Mill Co's., and the owners of some of them are prep»ring to commence opera. tions. We believe there are Plenty of good ledges between this place and the Crystal Spring region which will pay Well ifs lite te energy is displayed in prospecting them. Tue LeorrimarePaurr —The rebels demand 8 a prior consideration to a Con» Yentivn of States or peace negotiations, that the right of States to withdraw from the Union should be concedeé. This bas been the only proposition upon which they ever proposed to treat. The Southern Confederacy was established with that doctrine as a fundamental principle. And now Georgia: one of the Stutea made a party tothe Confederate compact of her own accord, propo. seu to desert the sinking government of Jeff. Davie in the hour of greatest need. What can the Confederate States do to. prevent it? She isa sovereign State they admit, bound. only by her own. will to the Conlederney, and when she chooses she may Withdraw her troops trom the Confederate armies and’ leave the rebellious guverument. The svede. of dissolution were implanted in the Confed. eracy and the fryjt 10 well nigh ripe— Should the reverses which have visited their armies continue, other States will be. come discontented and withdraw thew: troops. In the mavement of Georgia the Rteatast weakness of the rebel Government hne manifested itself. Our Goverument, with its present power, can never admit such a doctrine. Its acknowledgment weuld be our destructiun. Every State is firmly bound to obey the mandates of the General Goverument; and soseon aga contrary docs trine ig admitted our downfall is sure, Wu.
