Nort Brcbienen. —The village of
North Bloomfield, more generally called
by residents “Humbug,” now wears quite
a cheerful appearance. Considerable mining is being done, but the largest operations are being conducted by Butterfield &
Co., who have purchased extensive claims
ond are now engaged in running acut and
tunnel in order to open them. These
claims are owned mostly by Frenchmen,
and some forty are employed on the works.
The hotel is well filled with boarders, and
French appears to be the ruling language.
It may with reason be said that the
French have taken Humbug.
CoLBy’s ACCIDENT.-——-We have further
particulars i in relation to the throwing of
Colby’s stage off the grade, and taken altogether it was one of the most miraculous escapes we have ever heard of. On
the narrow grade about half way up the
Nill from Greenhorn Creek, Colby, on his
his passengers out,‘ attempted to ‘pass.—
The lead-bars caught i in the wagon wheel
and the leaders went over the grade, Colby
iumping from the seat just as the stage
went over. “The first plunge, horses and
stage went out of ‘sight, ‘andthose_who.
‘whole concern land in Greenhorn Creek,
three hundred or more feet below them.
2 While looking in this direction the rolling
“of wheels attracted ‘their attention, and
the four horses with the fore wheels attached, were seen making a circuit on the
opposite side of the ravine at full speed
They reached the grade before the men
could head them, and ran to Hunt’s Hill,
about two miles distant where they were
caught. The body and hind wheels of the
stage were found about thirty feet below
the road but slightly injured. Twenty-five
dollars will cover the whole damage sustained by the accident, We. congratulate
Colky on his almost miraculous escape.
M'LLE CELESTE.—Do not forget the
wonderful feats of Rosa Celeste at the Theatre tonight. The performance will be
the best of the kind ever given» in this
city. Admission 50 cents.
THANKS.—We are indebted to Mr. Quigley, of the Zinc House, for a dish of magnificent, wild honey, taken from a bee tree
on his ranch.
