Miss May N, Hawley, ‘‘the Poetess of the Sierras,” whose contributions to many of the leading periodicalsof the country are among the choicest gems of poesy that ever emanated from,an American writer, has been in failing health for some time past, She has written but little for several months, and recently came to this city from her home at Columbia Hill in hopes of haviug her health benefited by , the change. We hope to soon be able to chroiicle the restoration to health of this gifted writer, whose malady is said .to be consumption. Michael Davitt Not Coming. Michael Davitt, the Irish reformer, will not deliver an address here, as had been hoped he would. Last evening wasthe only time that he could have come, and as the Irish citizens believed “they could not have'time to make proper arrange— ments for receiving him, and so informed him, he has telegraphed . Oring thas he concluded it was not € te come, ona interests, to hasten here and make, a careful éxamination as to the prospects. Mr. Taylor arrived in this city last week, and spent some time in the mine. He went to Sai’ Francisco next, saying at the time o departure that he would soon forward instructions as to what should be done, Sunday evening Superintendent Jones received from him a telegram dated at Colfax, saying to suspend all operations at the mine.
