The speaking, if the weather is fine, will be on the stand in front of the National Hotel. ‘There will be-a free. train from Grass: Valley. Turn out and hear the issues of the campaign . ably discussed. Democrats and Re-. publicans, hear both sides of the question. Turn out. @ Local Brevities. _,--There is an Ordinance in force which prohibits the firing of apy gun, rate limits of this city, ‘Any per son convicted of violating this Ordinance will be fined not less than ten and not to exceed one hundred dollars, or be imprisoned: in the city prison not to exceed ten days.” Several times during the past week this law has -been violated by some persons unknown to the police. The. shots have been fired in back lots, and should be stopped, if the parties . desire to save themselves trouble. All persons having bills against the county of Nevada are hereby notified that they must file them with the County Clerk before Satutday afternoon at 5 o’clock, or they will not be allowed at the next regular session of the Board. The Supervisors will meet on next -.onday morning. , Henry Hayes, Esq., formerly .of Moore’s Flat, is in town. He has been living at Oakland for the past year.or so, oe os Don’t fail to go and hear Geo. C. Gorham to-night. ‘ No merchant ean expect to get his share of trude unless he advertises.in a local paper. Don’t advertise your business if you have all the trade you want, because it will surely be increased. When a man wants customers, if he understands his business, he is always apt to tell the people what he has for sale. The Grass Valley toll road is in a terrible. rough condition, no work having been done on it’ for a long time. The travel over the road is very large, and as lung as toll is collected it ought to be kept in good order. A special train was run from Grass Valley to this city on Wednesday evening last. About three hundred and fifty persons came upon it to attend the Democratic meeting. They brought along a band which discoursed most excellent music during the evening. That Narrow Gauge Railroad.is a great institution; besides being a nice way to travel, it is a very cheap way of taking a large crowd to either town to attend political meetings. We are infurmed by a Democrat that last year about the " game number were brought up here from Grass Valley in teams; which cost over $200, while this time it cost only$50. Rev. H. Cummings, formerly Congregational preacher, in this city, ow resides near Centerville, in El Dorado county, where he is engagedin raising Angora goats. He has a flock of 1,150 graded to a high standard. He sent six thcrough-bred bucks to the State Fair for exhibition, They were named respectively, “Phil. Sheridan,” “‘Gen. Grant,” ‘*‘Moses,’” ‘‘Aaron,”? ‘‘Caleb” and “Joshua.”” The two youngest were of Mr. Cummings’ own raising. The editor of the Truckee Republican, whe is a witness in the murder trial, came to this city by way of Webber Lake and Eureka. While onthe way he picked up quite a number of items of interest, which ‘appear in the last number of his paper. We boil down a few of them for the benefit of our readers: John O’Garry, an old citizen of Eureka, has been nominated by the Democrats for the office of Supervisor for the 3d District. The Centennial mine, about 7 miles from Eureka, . Promises to be one of the richest in the State. A cinnamon bear was killed last week on the Webber Lake _ oad, about 9 miles from Moore’s Flat. It weighed over 500 pounds and was killed by Monroe Stifford. Boarders Wanted. ! A few gentlemen can be accommodated with board and lodging, by applyiug to Mrs. C. W., Cornell, Aristocracy Hill. Repntation, like money and position, is mainly confined to’ the old. Men are not widely known until long after they have dune the work that gives them their fame, portraits of great men are delusions; ‘statutes are lies. They’ are taken when men have become famous, which; on the average, is at least twenty-five-years after they did the work which gave them their fame. Original work requires enthosiasm. If all the original work done by men under forty-tive were annibiliated, they would be reduced to barbarism. Men are at their best at that time when enthusiasm and experience are almost evenly balanced. ‘his period, on the average, is from thirty-eight to forty. After thisthe law is that experience increased, but enthusiam decreases. ~_ There is no Excuse. For any one suffering with a sore throat, or slight or severe cough, or a husky voice, for by inbaling Pond’s Extract it soothes and relieves the burning irritation, thus alluying the cough and hoarseuess, while the entire pulmonary organs are strengtbened invigorated.
