LOCAL INTELLIGENCE,
AN EXTENSIvE ENTERPRISE.—The
North Bloomfield Gravel Mining Co.
is engaged in building a ditch from the
South Fork of Poor: Man’s Creek, in
Eureka township, to carry water to the
miners of Bloomfield township and the
ridge. They are increasing the force at
work as rapidly as possible, and expect
soon to have five hundred Chinamen on
the line of the ditch. The company
pome time since bought a number of
mining claims near North Bloomfield,
which they propose to supply with wa-_
ter, and all others who desire. On
‘Tuesday last the Company filed articles
‘of incorporation in the Secretary of
‘State’s office, with capital stock fixed at
$800,000, in 8,000 shares of $100 each.
The principal place of business will be
in San Francisco. . Trustees for the first
three months: Lester L. Robinson, 8.
¥.-Butterworth and William E. Barron.
‘The company has abundance of capital
and will no doubt do much for the locality in which it is operating, if its
affairs are well managed.
’
THE: Kansas Claim —The Kansas
claim was purchased a short time since
from “Uncle Billy Hazlett” by A. D. Allen of San Francisco. Since Mr. Allen
has had control of the claim much has
been done towards getting it in good
working order.The new incline has
been sunk thirty feet and it is supposed
_ that they are now within twelve or fifteen feet of pipe clay. Fine hoisting
works have been erected and a fifteen ;
horse engine will do the hoisting after
next Monday. It will mot be necessary
to use a pump until after they get
through the pipe clay. This mine is
on 4n excellent gravel channel and will
yield well when opened.
STaGE LINE AND 'ToLL Roap For
SaLE.—George H. Colby, proprietor of
the Nevada and Dutch Flat stage line
and owner of the Little’ York and
Dutgh Flat.toll road, offers this valuable property for sale. In addition to
the stage line and toll road he also has
_a good stage stable at You Bet.. The}
line is well stocked and runs daily between the two places. ‘
THe EvrEKA CLuB.—The Grant &
Colfax Club at Eureka now numbers
about eighty, and the Unionmen of
South Fork are also talking of organtz—
ing, since they’ have a precinct established. They are very enthusiastic
throngh@ut Eureka township and will
cut down the Democratic majority of . .
last year considerably. Judge McFarJand and.Judge Roberts open.the campaign at Graniteville on next Saturday
evening, and they will have a good
meeting.
a
A CHEAP Horse.—An enthusiastic
Democrat from a neighboring village,
who has been reading the WVational and
Grass Valley -Union and listening to
Dibble’s speeches, came into town yesterday ahd sold his horse to a Union
man, ‘whoagreed to pay $180. for the
animal when Seymour is elected President. If the seller waits until that
time, before purchasing another . horse,
he’ll be a Walker to the end of time.
Pe >
‘ Rien Srrixe.—A gentleman who
came down from Graniteville lately, informs us that a rich ledge was struck
there last week, by two prospectors
who go by the names of “Happy Jack”
and “Tobacco Bill.” The ledge is lo
cated half way between Graniteville
and South Fork. It is large dnd well
defined, and miners think the rock will
yield from thirty-five to forty «dollars
per ton.
THE BANNER MINE.—The repairs
and improvements recently made in the
Banner mill and hoisting works are
completed, and the mine is yielding excellent quartz. The thirty stamp will
is Continually at work, and plenty of
Pick is always on hand,
»YESTERDAY was so sultry that if took
taye or. three able bodied men to draw a
fall breath. “A good shower would
have a refreshing effect upon the atmosphere and all who breathe it.
a
Growine REPuTATION.—If the entire correspondence from South America, Central America and the West [adies, received by Messrs. Hostetter &
Smith, during the last twelve months,
were published gat length, it would
probably be considered one of the most
extraordinary collections of approbatory
testimony on record. The letters,
written in every variety of style, and
emanating from individuals of almost
every class, are, nevertheless, all of
the same tenor. Physicians, priests,
merchants, planters, military officers,
artisans, lawyers, &c., tell one story,
admitting, without reserve or qualification, that the tonics heretofore in use.
in thoée regions have been generally
and justly superceded by HOSTK'ITER’S BITTERS. i :
The confidence manifested by the
people of these countries might be fairly
called enthusiastic. Yet these are not
the only tokens of the growing popuHOSTETTER’S STOMACH BITTERS.
The foreign . orders for the article from
Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China,
Japan, East Indies, Cape of Good Hope,
Sandwich Islands, &., have been heavier than at any former period.
A8 an autidote to malaria, astomachic i
and general “inviyorant they all testify
to its remarkable efficacy.
