Roberts, our good looking townaman, is still making the claims of the Manzanita Gravel Mining Company to disgorge heaps of gold. The centre of the ancient river channel has been reached, ‘ and the geld is found to be considerably coarser. Pieces of gold worth * $2 50 are frequently found now, and gravel from the bed rock was firospected the other day which yielded $120 to the pan. Three shifts a day of.eight Hours each are employed i in. the several drifts, and the gravel is. drifted out to the height of about ‘six feet. Last week about 2,865 car leads.of gravel were washed from this mine which at $4. per car load, a very low average, would yield $11,460 for the week’s work. The ground is‘also prepared for hydrauling next winter, without the aid of guupowder, which has been a ‘very . Important item in loosening up the __be first ih the field, high banks of gravel. Manzanita is a dividend payiug mine, and will be for yeurs. to come, lint Amusement. There is always a feast or famine in the amusement line in this place. They have run 15 feet of tunnel on this side since ~ they commenced, and are now in good safe ground for driving ahead more rapidly. On the other side they have got the face of the tunnel completed, and will at oncé commence tunneling this way.
