LOCkL TELLIGENCE,
THE Buppuwl—=We Yesterday examined a Cornish contrivance used for
working ‘the tailings of the Banner
mine, called'a “buddle.” The parties,
engaged work on shares, and as _ they
have stuck to it for a long time must be
doing well. The “buddle” consists of
a tub 18 fect in diameter with the bot—
tom sloping toward the center, where
there isan opening about two feet in
diameter, A shaft supped with six
hollow arms, revolves in the pan,. and
from them are suspended ordinary” wisp
brushes and straps of leather. The
dailings run in at the centré, through.
the arms, and are discharged on the
Trim. The best tailings are found near
the outside of the tub, and the sand is
Aischarged in the centre and carried off.
It takes from eight to eleven hours to
work a charge, and after: a working
only about forty per, cent. of sand re—mains. They are thea washed ina tub
agitator. The “biiddle” is run by water power.

Ricu LepGE.—A party is engaged in
werking a small ledge near ths Norridgewalk will, from which good pay is
obtained. The rock is raised by a
windlass, the owner takes it™to his
house in a wheel-barrow, and_ works it
in a sinall arasta. We understand that
even by this slow process he is making
& “good thing.”
Butte County Farr.—We have re-'
’ @eived an invitation to the Butte County
Second Annual Fair, which commences
at Chico, on the 29th of September, and
eontinues until the 3d of October. ‘he
premium list includes a large number
of articles, and the resources of Butte
will no doubt be fully represented at
the Fair. The racing will commence
on the second day and continue to the
end of the Fair.

Springs, a few days since. We hope
soon to hear that he has entirely recovered.

probably, be considered one of the most
extraordinary collections of approbatory
testimony -on record. The letters,
written in every variety of .style, and
emanating from individuals of almost
every class, are, nevertheless, all of
the same tenor. Physicians, priests,
merchants, planters, military officers,
