SENTENCED To STATES Puisun.—Yesfour years’ imprisonment in the States
Prison for assault, wiih intent to_ kill }
Phil. Galway, Secretary of ‘the Allison
Ranch mine. The tage of Daiiels is a
sad one.” His brother. died suddenly,
and left him in possession of an interest
in the Allison Ranch mine, ‘which was . .
an immense fortune.. He found himself
with abandance of money.and scores of
' friends. He knew little of business, and . -.had, to-a#great extent, ‘to rely upon . ”
others to mahage his affairs. Four or .
five years.ago he paid taxes on $43,000
supposed that he was beyond the reach
of want. ‘ For more than a year he has
been without a dollar. His fortune
prosperity, vanished with it,
tuue he has been morose in disposition ;
and hag stated that “every man he ever
idea of the extent to which his property
had become involved, and, finding it ail
swept away in so short a time, he immagined that he was deeply wronged.
Laborimg under such’ false impression,
he committed the assault for which Le
fused to consult a lawyer, and »when,
one was.appointed by the-Court to de-—
fend_hiw, he seemed perteetly. unconcerned about the result, refusing even
to make a statement in his owh behalf.
It is probably better that the case has
resulted in this way, for the unfortunate
man is in such a state of mind as tilight
lead him to some more criminal act, if
at large. : r
