On, last Thursday morning, .T. B, Riggs
and wife, who reside near You Bet, in this

deal of trouble with Chinese sluice-robbers,
and has, once or twice shot at them while
they were engaged in cleaning up his
sluices. He and his wife suffered intensely for hours, but they are both getting

justice.
THE BANNER MINE.—Recently two
twelfths of the Banner mine were purchased by Head and Land of San Francisco. The mine is yielding large quantities
of rock of a high grade, but the new mill
_ has not been working to suit the Company.
There has been a considerable amount of
quicksilver and gold carried through the
tail sluices. Mr. Varney, the inventor of
the pans in use is h-re, superintending
them, and those interested are ' confident
that they will be able to greatly improve.

claims at Hont’s Hill a day or two since.
Some workmen engaged on the opposite
side saw the bank giving way and gave
the alarm. The. miners in. the Eastern
claim dropped their tools and ran, bately
succeeding in getting out of reach, when
a huge masse of earth came down, burying
their coats and tools. No one was injur
od, and the damage i is of small extent.
