. SULPHURET Works.—For some time
past a Frenchman has been engaged in
putting up machinery at Canada Hill,
for the purpose of working sulphurets
by @ new process. The works are now
completed, and the experiments on gold
sulphurets are said to be more than
satisfactory, A gentleman who has
visited and examined the works, informs us that they have operated with
gold sulphirets and saved five per cent,
above the fire assay. They have not yet
commenced regular work, but are only
experimenting on different kinds of
of rock. The Superintendent is satisfied with the experiments on gold ‘sulphurets, and is now experimenting on
silver sulphurets from the Yellow Jack.

expended about $60,000 in fitting up
the machinery, and we hope that they
will succeed.
—
Srrucx Ir.—Branbury & Stacy struck
avery rich ledge in their claim at
Graniteville; several days ago. The
lead is three feet wide, and is very rich
where they have opened on it in their
tunnel. This claim is located near
Black & Young’s mill. Reeently several rich strikes hnve been made in the
vicinity of Graniteville, and there is
considerable life in mining matters!
‘There is every evidence that this part of
our county is as rich as any quartz district of the State.
~~~» FeP-ARRIvap or FALL Goobs: —
Talking about pretty things, we venture the assertion, without fear of contradiction, that A. Goldsmith, on the
corner of Broad and Pine streets, received : yesterday the gayest, neatest
and finest stock’ of dress gvuods, trinimings, &., &c., that was ever’seen in
this city. Several cases of goods were
received at his store, and he is now confident that no.ledy can ask for any article in-his dine.but what he can suit’ her
to a dot—in style, color, shade, quality
and pricé.’ Go and ‘sed the elegant
goods.
THE CLUB FxLaG.—Yesterday a magnificent flag, twenty by thirty feet, was
received.from San Francisco for. the
Grant and Colfax Club of this city. It
will fly from the front of the Club room
. until Grant.‘is elected. ‘It is made of
very fine butiting.
ScHooL Tax.—The people of Union
Hill School District; voted a tax, on Saturday last, for the purpose of building
a new school ‘house at that place. The
vote in favor of the tax was unanimous,
and’a good building witlsorn take the
small for the accommodation of the
ehildren.
BoaRD oF ENROLUMENT.—A. H. Han—son has been appointed: Clerk’ of the
Board of Enrollment, and is now ready
to enroll all voters who make application. Every man should see that his
naué is upon the poll lists. -The office
of registration will bé at Hanson’s store
on Broad street,
