LOCAL AFFAIRS, Local Brevities. i ‘We understand the affairs of the ‘Bank of Nevada County are about arranged, and the new bank to be founded at the old stand on Broad street, will be opened for the trans‘action of business within the next ‘en days. This will.be good news to “lit pedple. If ever acity needed a bank, built upon a solid basis, as the'new one will undoubtedly be, it is of business to be done in the banking — ~ Hon. H. F. Page, the Republican candidate for Congress, passed through Colfux day before yesterday, on his way to hisold home at Placerville, El Dorado county. He is announced to speak at that place this evening. He will be in this city some time next month, when he will be warmly received by his many friends hereabouts, “May Howard,’’ ‘‘Sweetbriar,’’ afid other fast horses owned by George F. Jacobs, of this city, passed through Colfax on Thursday last, on théir'way to Reno, ‘where they will take a hand in the races to come off at that place in a few days. The weather upin the mountains is getting a little too cold for cattle, and the owners have given orders to have them driven ‘back to the ranches at thelower part of this county and the adjoining counties. Two large droves passed through this city yesterday, on their way to Yuba county, We The County Court of this county isnow in session at Truckee, This extra session of the Count-is a great convenience to the people in that Section, and they seem to appreciate it. The District Court will meet October 2nd, when the Trout. Creek murder cases will be set for trial, They will all probably be tried. at that term of the Court. It is said there will be a very large number of witnesses in attendanée, which: of course will make business good for the Railroad and our town. ‘The regular monthly meeting of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Company, took place at ‘Grass Valley yesterday. ‘We hear that several mines in this vicinity, that have not been worked for many years, are about to be startedup again. We hope the rumor may prove true. The residence, of Frank A. Potter was yesterday sold at auction, by F. G. Guild, auctioneer, for the sum of $1,055 to Mrs. John T. Morgan. The _ furniture in the house was also sold at auction and brought: gvod prices. The Nevada City Water Works ‘were sold to Alvinza Hayward for the sum of $30,000. This is the _ best piece of paying property.in ‘the Btate. The“V Flume Company are shipping a greatdeal of lumber to the cities below, and therefore their business is good. The railroad is proving to be a great advantage to that company, and weare glad of it.
