: sled ‘THE DAILY TRANSCRIPT. BEOWN & CALKINS, Proprietors. —_——————_—__ SATURDAY EV'NG. APRIL 15, °93. WOMAN SUFFRAGE. A Very Large Registration in the State of Women vote in Kansas. Kansas is, therefore, a good basis for an estimate of the sentiment of women in regard to the privilege of suffrage for their sex. The registration for. the .municipal elections in that State showed a larger enrollment ef women on the poll books than on any previous eccasion since the passage of the law providing for equal suffrage at local e'ections. In Topeka 4,000 women have indicated their intention to vote; in Leavenworth, 2,354; in Wichita, 2,464 in Lawrence, 1000; in Fort Scott, 1,385; . in Emperia, 883; in Kansas City, 3,482, and in smaller towns in like proportion. It is regarded asa significant fact that there is no special issue in these towns inviting particular effort on the part of women. It is suggested by the Star of Kansas City, Missouri, that perhaps the inference may be drawn that the wemen have taken this early oppertanity to indicate their desire for enlarged privileges in the exercise of the elective franchise, the question of equal suffrage in State as well as municipal elections being one cf those which will be submitted as an amendment, to the constitution at the next general election. While they have not manifested a very general appreciatien of the rights which they already enjoy in this direction, it may be that they are ambitious to extend it and this of itself will cut an important figure in determining whether the proposed amendment shall be adopted. It is safe to say, that the resolution will-be ratified at the polls if the woman wantthe electien to ge that way. Men will vote on this question exactly as their wives and mothers and ‘sisters suggest. There may be some exceptions to this rule, but whatever other faults Kansas may possess, a lack of chivalry toward women cannot be numbered in its lists of direlictions. In no other State in the Union is “the sex” more carfully considered. The statutes jealously regard the property interests of women and give them an equal chance . “with ‘the men in every way with the ex. ception of suffrage. The same séntiment which has brought all this to pass wil] also make women co*equal with men as voters, if that is the desire and ambition of the. wives‘and mothers and daughters of Kansas, and the heavy registration which they have taken the pains te make preparatory .to the municipal elections would seem to indicate that they are by “jhe means indifferent te the fate of the suffrage resolution. 2 Simmons Liver REGULATOR cures genral debility and will give you anew lease on life. iy or ' A Dainty Dessert. The Cincinnati Enquirer says an interesting contest toek place at Dayton, Ohio, on Easter evening in which sever contestants, five white and two colored men, entered the lists in a hard boiled eggeating strife for a gold watch and chain, to be awarded to the egg-eater who qpuldget away with the — greatest number within ten minutes. The pro. prietor of a creamery and butter and egg house offered the prize. Fully tive hundred persens were in attendance. The eggs were shelled and the eater had the privilege of using salt and pepper. John Chingman, a beiler-maker, ate twenty-one eggs in nine and one half minutes and got the watch. = His wife stood at his side and encouraged him in gulping down the white and yellow food. An undertaking establishment is on the opposite side of the street, and when William Novinsky got the seventeenth egg partly down he made a bee-line acress the street. Marysville Democrat: It is stated that a movement is being talked of among the boys composing Marysville Parlor of Native Sons te have the Curly Bear degrée conferred on the members of the order here in the near future. The Nevada City and Grass Valley beys are to be invited to come down and pérform the ceremony, and no doubt they will be pleased to come as they were rifcely entertained while on-their last official. visit to this city. Should they conclude to accept the invitation, it is presumed there will be thirty cr forty of them. and they will have a.grand time, as they certainly knew how todo it. oe A Letter Missing. The ether day the Transcript published an account of the cdiitempt proceedings at Marysville against Gould, Doolittle and “others of Dutch Flat.1t was priated that Mr. Doolittle said that “about a year ago Mr. Gould hired me to work on the ditch.” ~The-word “me” should have been ‘‘men.”’ Mr. Doolittle has other business to attend to and vhas never been hired to work in or about the mine. He has been one of the owners of the preperty for a number of years and whatever work he has done “has been for himself. The typographical error above explained shows ,what a great. difference in meaning the omission of a single letter will sometimes make. Bot mistakes will happen in the best regulated families, and in this instance it is our apolegy and Doolittle’s treat.: _ Tomorrow Will Be Suiday. In all human probability tomorrow will be a pleasant’ day, that is we judge so from the conduct of the weather dur— ing the past few days. If it be so the churches will be filled with the fairweather christians and the wet-weather sinners, to the delight of the preachers, who have been obliged to preach to almest empty benches during the past eight or ten Sundays. ee Hires’ Root. Beer. Headquarters for this delicious and healtl.ful summer beverage—at the BeeCures Others Will cure You, is a true statement of thé action of AYER’S Sarsaparilla, whien taken for diseases originating in impure blood ; but, while this assertion is true of AYER’S Sarsaparilla, as thousands can attest, it cannot be truthfully applied to other preparations, which unprincipled dealers will recommend, and try to impose upon you, as “just as good as Ayer’s.”” Take Ayer’s Sarsaparilla and Ayer’s only, if you need a blood-purifier and would be benefited permanently. This medicine, for nearly fifty years, has enjoyed a reputation, and made a record for cures, that has never been equaled by other preparations. AYER’S Sarsaparilla eradicates the taint of he. reditary scrofula'and other blood diseases from the system, and it has, deservedly, the confidence of the people. AYERS Sarsaparilla “I cannot forbear to express my joy at the relief I have obtained from the use of AYER’S Sarsaparilla. I was afflicted with kidney troubles for about six months, suffering greatly with pains in the small of my back. In addition te this, my body was covered with pimply efuptions. The remedies prescribed failed to help me. I then began to take . AYER’S Sarsaparilla, and, in a short time, the pains ceased and the pimples disappeared. I advise every youngman or woman, in case of sickness resulting from impure blood, no matter how ‘. long standing the case may be, to take AYER’S Sarsaparilla.”—H.L. They Have a Brood of Six Hundred Little Chickens, Stockton. Mail:— Six. hundred-_little chicks may be seen following four ‘ hens at Al. Baker’s place in the City Homc* stead, Mr. Baker has a thousand-egg incubator, and recently he loaded it to the muzzle. The thing went off a few days ago aud six hundred little chickens stepped out and began te look around for a living. It happened that feur hens had decided to’run an opposition te the incubator and had begun work shortly after the incubator was loaded. When the hens saw the yard full of chicks they promptly gave up the contest, left their nests and took. possession ofthe big breod. The chickens have divided up about equally among the hens, so that each has in the neighborhood -ef 150. At’ night ithe little~fellows cuddle around their particular hen, climbing on one another’s backs and on her back, until the hen is completely concealed from view, being in-the-centre-of-a pyramid, In the daytime the hens strut preudly around the premises followed by the ehicks, while hens come from blocks around and roost on the fence to take in the sight. This is a reduction of $249 per car of 20,000 pounds over the old rail rate. Over the new rail rate that went into effect yesterday it-is-a reduction. of $140 a.carload.
