himself to be unmarried and make proposals of marriage to any unmarried female” of good character, or repeatedly
call on or keep company with such female uport such false pretenses ti-at he is
unmarried, shall be deemed guilty of

A Woman With Backbone.
—_
Record-Union: A brave ‘woman ef Red
Bloff is taiking very freely, and with a
spice and dash that takes the breath of
the ordinary man away, She declares
that am apple should be the emblem for
the woman’s building at the World’s
Fair, and ‘then she gives the poor man
this slap: ‘‘] suppose that but for Eve
the men to this day would be idle, naked,
sunburned loafers, as was Adam—no
better than beasts, the serpents and the
insects. But Eve courageously took the
apple, rescued the world from sloth, indifference aud stupidity, and lifted. the
human race to a level ouly a little lower
than that of the angels.” This wonian
is at least frank. We vote unanimously
that the apple.he adopted, and that she
be elected a committee of one to place it
on the topmost pinnacle of the woman's
building—and may we be there to se
her climh.
Rather Speedy.
A speed of ninety-seven miles_an hour
has been attained between Philadelphia
and New York. The faster the train
the smaller the-danger from accidents is
proved by the past, and there is no reason why trains should not goat a grea‘er
speed than even that in safety, provided
the track is in proper shape.
