Big ‘Bars of Gold.
The statement that the
bar of gold récently shipped from Harqua
Hala was the largest ever made is incerrect. The Spring Valley mine at Cherokee,
Butte county, made a lar worth $90,000
some years ago. One was made at
Helena, Montana, valued at $100,000.
While the famous Bodie pocket was being worked out two bara were shipped,
the value of each being about $5,000.
The largest ever made came from the
North Bloomtield gravel mine, Nevada
county, in 1882. It weighed 511}
pounds troy, aiid was worth $114,000.
