About Beys.
A Chico paper prints the following,
and Neyada City boys will find it
worth reading and thinking about:
‘ . In every California town, the same
perhapsas in Chico, there are three
classes of boys: _ Those who have
ambition todo well, and are steadily
pursuing that way ; those who do not
care to do well, but perbist in doing
—_whatthey know to be wrong and injurious to themselves; and a large
third” class “of go-betweens who are
liable to do well or ill according as
they are led, influenced—or directed.
To the first class we need address no
words at present. To the second class
words of'counsel are wasted. But tha’
middle class needs words of counsel
from editors, as well as from parent
and teachers. The
chronicle. passing events, and in so
. doing there are facts evéry day
brought to light which are. both painfal andshameful. The events which
we publish.ought of themselves to be a
warning to the boys of the <middle
class. They ought to readin the passing events of the day lessons which
would guide them in their course. If
~ when they see the results of indulgence
in wrong ideas leading towrong acts,
and they-are followed by all.the results of-crime, they ought to resolve~at
onceto pursue a different way. Our
advice to boys is that they resolve to
make something of themselves. This
they can do by turning away from
those who do wrong and siding with
those who do right.

The Four Corners gives the following addditional particulars of the killing of Nathaniel E. Robbins of this
” city at the Ayers mine, Mooney — Flat:
Mr. Robbins went down into the sh.:ft
after dinner to superintend some work
that was being done at the bottom by
W.E. Pollard. Making the ascent a
few minutes later, all went well with
the hoisting bucket moving slowly until the surface was reached, which is
about ten feet lower than thelanding
per. Here Mr. Robbins attempted
alight from the bucket while still
ascending. This caused the accident,
for he had no sooner set one foot upon the ground than the other was raisedand the tilted bucket drew him
back oyer the shaft down which he
was ‘precipitated head-foremost to
meet a horrible death at the bottom.
As the bucket hurled its precious load
toward eternity he was heard to cry.
out: “Oh, my God!” and these were
the last words uttered by him. Miracculously did Mr. Pollard, who was in
the bottom of the shaft, escape with
hislife, and that only by clinging
losely to the walls. For three and
one-half hours did the deceased battle
for life after being brought up out of the
shaft,

To msureE a hearty appetite and increased digestion take Simmons Liver
Regulater.
Trauuan physiologists have shown
that change of tissue in animal organism is promoted by light. Itis further
found that the change is so slow in
darkness that the ordinary reserve of
nutriment stored in the body is sufficient to preserve from starvation fora
. very long time.
In all derangement of the liver a
cure is certain if you take Simmons

The superstitious: belief that human

based upon a scientific principle. The
French Academy of Sciences has made
experiments upon the body of a guillotined man which go to prove that each
human body is in itself an electric battery, on@ electrode being représented

The body of the subject upon which
experiments were made was taken immediately after death and placed upona

After some vacillation the head portion
turned towards the north, the pivotboard remaining stationary. One of the
professors turned it half way around,
