A Correspondent Complains That They Are
Used as Damping Places for Trash.
—
The TRANSCRIPT has received an anonymous correspondence complaining about
people: throwing their rubbish on the
public squares of this city, burning up
their trash thereon, and cemplaining
generally about the use made of them, to
the disgust of those living in the immediate neighborhood who are never guilty
of anything of the kind, The correspondent also calls attention te the fact
that there is now and has been for the
past month about three wagon loads of
Fast‘ and West Bread streets.
It is not the mission of the TRaNscRIPT
to attend to such matters. Instead of
complained to the City Marshal, who
would promptly attend to the matter.
The people living in the neighborhood
of these places should understanel, however, that there is a city ordinance prohibiting the dumping of debris upon the
public squares of the town, and they
should not do it.

A Little Girl’s Experience In A Lighthouse.
Mr. and Mrs. Loren Trescott are keepers of the Gov. Lighthouse at Sand
Beach, Mich., and are blessed with a
daughter, four years old.. Last April she
was taken down with Measles, follewed .
with a dreadful Cough and turning intoa
Fever. Ducters at home and at’ Detroit
treated her, but in vain, she grew worse
rapidly, until she was a mere “handful of
bones.” —Then she tried Dr. King’s New
Discovery and after the use of two and a
half bottles, was completely cured. ‘They

Michael Hussey has been prospecting
a quartz ledge near his residence, in
Willow Valley district, for a few weeks
past. He has struck some remarkably
rich-quartz, which is literally filled w.th
gold, many of the specimens seeming to
be at least half gold. “Yesterday Mr.
Hussey took out rock that is even richer
than that taken out when the strike was
first m: de, and indic itions are that there
is considerable more of it within easy
reach. ‘The ledge is only four inches
wide, and being near the surface is evidently a spur or stringer frem a larger
ledge. It may prove to be a pocket, as
this is characteristic-of many small veins
of qnartz that are found to be unusually [
rich not far from the surface, but which
when sunk upon to any depth develop
into good-sized Tédges of high-grade ore,
though not so rich as the pockety porWe trust that Mr.
Hussey’s present strike, if it is a pocket,
will prove to be a good big one, and that
the indications will warrant continuing
work, ewith prespects of a good mine
being opened. He and his son, John M.
Hussey, the scheotteacher, worked a
ledge in the same neighborhood several
years ago, from which considerable very
rich rock was taken, and we presume
this recent strike has been made on a
portion of the old ledge.

STREET SPRINKLING:
es
That Matfer Should Bo Atteaded: fo During
the Summer.
Now that the principal thoroughfares
of the city are macadamized, surely it
will be necessary to have the streets
sprinkled during the summer, else the
stores of the city must be kept ctnsed all
the time to keep the dust out, and of
course this cannot be done during the
heated term. The question then arises,
who will pay for the sprinkling ?
It has been urged on the one hand that
the Tiustees should not use the city
inoney fo do it, as only four streets out
of the forty or fifty would receive any
benefit by such expenditure, and it weuld
be doing an injustice to the taxpayers
who receive no benefit therefrom.
On the other haud, it is urged that the
City Trustees should order the sprinkling
done, for what benefits ene part of the
tewn benefits the whole.
At-any rate the streets should be
sprinkled, even if it has to be done by
subscriptions to pay for it. This subscription business, however, is not satisfactory, for the reason that many, and
even those who would receive the greatest benetit-therefrom, are the very onc
who will refuse to contribute to the
fund. Under this state of affairs, if
any sprinkling is done, if the city will
net doit, the burden must necessarily
fall upon that class known in the community as public-spirited citizens.
It is hoped, for the comfort of the
people deing business en Broad, Main, J
Commercial and Pine streets, that some
steps will be taken towards: this sprinkling business.
Many rise in the morning with a headache and no inclination tor breakfast.
This is due to torpidity of the liver and
a deranged condition ef thestomach. To
restore healthy action to these organs,
nothing is so efficacious as an occasional
dose of Ayer’s Pills,
