From a letter written by Mrs. Ada E Hurd of Groton, 8. D., we quote: ‘‘Was taken with abad cold, which settled on my Luugs, cough set in and finally terminated in Consumption. Four doctors gave me up sayihg I could live but a shorttime. I gave myself up to my Saviour, determined if Icould not stay with my friends on earth, I would meet my absent ones above. My husband was THE RUSTIC DAZZLERS. They Give the Best Amatear Eutertainment Ever Witnessed Here. The performance given at the Theater last evening by the Rustic Dazzlers Minstrel and Specialty Company was unquestionably the best amateur entertainment ever witnessed here. From beginning to end it went with a spirited smoothness and finish peculiar as a rule to only the best professional organizations, and the three-hundred-dollar audience that filled every avadable bit of room in the big play-house manifested its appreciation by two hours and a half of almost unceasing laughter punctuated with rousing rounds ef applause. The opening scene disclosed twentyfive performers grouped in the form of a living pyramid having its apex at the rear flies, In the foreground was the customary semi-circle. Manager W. D. Plunkett as interlocuter was the the central figure of this row. He was flanked on each side by a quintette of vocalists. These gentlemen were in full evening dress, and with the exception of the middle man.were in ‘‘white face.” Behind them in tiers were the orchestra attired in Mexican costume and presenting a brilliant aypearance. As the curtain rose aunifermed messeuger boy rushed from the front of the house and upon the stage. He delivered to the interlocutor a telegram dated at San Francisco and signed by end men Barton, Martin, Baruh and Webber, stating that they were about to leave on the air line railroad for this city and hoped to be here at the opening of the show. Just as the audience had been informed of the measage’s contents to burnt-cork artists in their gorgeous costumes came flying up on the etage, one at a time, apparently dropping from the clouds. : » Alter the fine »rchestral overture, sup; ple uented by a full vocal chorus, there were presented a rich assortment of songs by Messrs.. Weiry, Fraukel, Barton, Prisk, Webber aud Walling, all of whom received fairly earned recalls. hese features were interspersed by a string ‘of bright jokes and local hits that were both new and clean. The conclusion of the opening part was a grand smash-up as Bert Dickerman arose fur the ostensible purpose of rendering a solo. Down went the curtain, fora moment pandemonium appeared te prevail behind the scenes, two policmen ran upon the stage from the audience, then up again in response te the storms of applause went the cui tain just long enough to display the whole troupe with hands joined aad chorusing ‘‘Bom-de-r +,” Part two opened with a catchy and splendidly executed knock-a-bout act by Organ and Barton, who afterwards isitroduced their amusing camel act. Ralph Gaylord, the phenomenal boywaistler, captured the heuse with his beautiful rendition of ‘‘O, Fair Dove, O, Fond Dove,” and being recalled—warbled a waltz in flute-like, tones. It was his first public performance and he at once sprang into popular favor. Bert and Merritt Rector, aged respectively fifteen and eleven years, gave one of their remarkable exhibitions ef conortion and high-kicking. They tied their limbs and bodies in all sorts of knots, shut themselves up like jack-knives and squeezed through hoops having but slightly: Jarger diameter than their waists when in normal position, and performed many other feats that seemed to indicate they had no bones in their physical make-up. Martin and Barton gavea clever song and dance, and they were followed by Messra, Werry, Prisk, Dickerman and Walling in some exceptionally tine .quartette singing. Messrs. Baker, the Organ brothers, Mavar, Gehrig and Karl Walling gave a first-class exhibition of tumbling. Tae progra:n closed with a scene by Sie Tyroleans in which Webber aad Bur*en appaarel as bs witehiag colorat danvels and Baruh aud“ Walling as their lovers. They yang prestily, danced gracefully aad made another hit with their anusing elephaat aud his’ traiaer.
