APRIL 27, '93 oe A HIGHBINDER ARRESTED. —— He Makes a Murderous Assault Upon a Fellow Countryman at Grass Valley. —— Constable Dillon and Deputy Sheriff Neagle arrested a Chinese highbinder named Hong Yong late yesterday sfterneon, He was found at the cabin in the eld Hirschman digyings, a short distance west of town. Hong Yong made a murderous assault upon a Chinaman named Ah Sing at Grass Valley Tuesday evening. He assaulted Sing with a hatchet, striking him on the head and neck with the weapon, inflicting a number of serious wounds, A Ch.nese doctor dressed his wounds, : The heathen who is-under arrest is regarded as a desperate man by his countrymen, and it is theught that he fully intended to kill his victim. He has lived in this city a long time and fled here after committing thecrime, He will be very apt to get a term in the penitentiary, as there were witnesses to the deed, which was committed in Chinatown about 8 o'clock in the evening. Today the injured Mongolian was brought to this city and identified the arrested man as his assailant. He is able to be around. Hong Yong was taken to Grass, Valley, where his examination will be held. Beckman now lives, her residemce being on upper East Broad street. Their diggings were immensely rich, but their claim wassmall. From a piece of ground about forty by sixty feet they teek out in a short time over $62,000. One panful of dirt yielded $912. In the famous old Nebraska mine, spots of gravel were found which yielded over $1,000 to ‘the panful, The gold in these exceedingly rich places was coarse, and frequently nuggets of considerable sizé were found. The Odin, Manzanita, West Harmony Bricks 45 a2i-tf and the original Harmony mines are all located 6n this same channel frem which millions of dollars worth of the precious yellow stuff was taken in years past, and ‘lit is the belief of nearly all the old gravel miners that millions are yet buried along thé unworkedportions of the channel, which is” known to extend for miles up the ridge towards Washington. It_ is thought that all the gravel will pay if handled economically, and that many very rich spots are apt to be encountered, which theory is substantiated by the developments made in the Harmony mine and the recent rich strike there.
