i H THE DAILY ‘Il RANSCRIPT. Nevada City, Nevada County, Calif. Published Every Eveuing Except Sundays and Legal Holidays. Established Sept. 6, 1860. —— ——Trrms—15 Cents a Week; 60 Cents a «Month; $6 a Year. MONDAY EV’NG AUG. 1, 92. THE COUNTY TICKET. What the Chief Spokesman of the People’s Party Has to Say. Republican: The People’s Party Club of Vruckee bind themselves to support the National nominees. So far as county candidates are concerned, there has been no actionas yet. If the Republican and Democratic Co .ventions nominate good tickets, it is probable that no county ticket will be placed in the field. It is the opivion of most of the members of the party that their cause wouldebe weakened rather than strengthened by contesting for county offices. But much depends upon the candidates selected by the old parties. Especially must the candidates for che Leyislatur’ be acceptable. It: is generally, conceded that Hon. T. C, Hocking will be the Republican nominee and Hon. Mike Garver the Democratic standard bearer. Now in frankness, though perhaps such things are better unsaid, these gentlemen stand better with the political leaders than they do with the rank and file, and if they are nominated, there will be a third party candidate and a third party ticket. Itis true, therefore we say it. 2-0 @e ——-——— WILL RESIGN. Viton eshte Are Incensed at Private lams’ Treatment. Vireina (Nev.), July 29.—A number of members of the local companies of ‘the Nevada National Guard have decided to resign on account of the punishment reIMPORTANT MINING NEWS A Few Noles Picked Up by the Reporter — A $300 Nugget—Big Strikes. Last week Willis Silva, who lives out on Park Avenue, at the edge of Littte Deer creek, took a notion that he would put ina few sluice boxes in his. back yard and wash some of the gravel which was exposed to view. He was of the opinion that the gravel would pay‘a few day’s good wages, and he went to shoveling the gravel into the boxes and turned the water from the creek into the sluices. He worked at this for about a couple of days and then started in to clean up, when to his astonishment he not only found some fine gold contained t@rgin but lying carelessly in vhe last sluice was a gold nugget as big as a hen’s egg. He brought it to town, and found that it contained over $300. ‘The finding of that specimen is going to lead to the opening up of the extensive gravel deposits which lie in that part of this city. Several tributers have for some little time been working at the Gold Tunnel mine on Deer creek. «They are working on a fine looking ledge. Last week they had a crushing uf sixteen tons at the Nevada County mill. To their surprise the rock yielded $60 to the ton, or nearly ‘$1000 for the lot. They will go ahead now and get out a big crashing. Dan Gillette and two or three other ledge in Meacham’s place on Piety Hill, have struck a fine body of ore, some of Work will be rushed and the mine will be fully developed. At the East Harmony the outlook is very fair. Yesterday two mules, which were purchased at Smaptsville, were brought to this city, and now their home will be in the depths of this mine, where they will be employed in hauling the cars coutaining the rich gravel to the stations, to be hoisted to the surface. The Nevada City mine is looking better than at any time yet. There is plenty of rork in sight, and some of it is of very high grade. That mine is a bonanza. PERSONAL MENTION. THE DEMOCRATS AT WORK Aleard and Seen by. tho Daily Transeript} The Primaries on Sagnst 20h, and the . Convention August 27th. The Democratic County Central Committee met in this city on Saturday, last, for the purpose of putting in moticn the machinery of their party, preliminary to the great contest which they claim they . will wage this fall in the interest of the people. The chief business accomplished was the adoption of rules to govern the Central Committee, providing for a ‘campaign committee” of ten with full power to select its own officers; and to take complete charge of. the campaign, fixing the time of holding the priuiaries and county conventi ns, tilling the vacancies in the Central . Committee which existed in Meadow Lake township owing to none having been elected for that township at the last county convention. The primaries were ordered held on Saturday, August 20th, and the county convention on Saturday, August 27th. The basis of representation was fixed the same as that of the last county convention, which will be published in a few days. The members of the committee in formality di,ensséd the present condition efthe party with reference to polities generally, and especially with reference to the People’s Party, and the opinion seeins to be that the aims and objects of the Democratic and P.ople’s Party were so nearly alike that there ought to be no conflict between the:a in this county, And that with geod anti monopoly, free silver nominees on its part, it ought te get the support ot all citizens who feel that a better state of affairs should pre vail in the county, State and Nation, All together the members felt ‘that when their campaigu committee meets, organizes and gets to work that with in telligence, euergyy aut houesty their motto, and with a determination to work in the interest only o& the people, that success is certain, locally and otherwise.
