Yesterday's Union in referring to the
extensive collection of the ores and minerals of California in the State Mining
Boreau says: It has been & mater ot
surprised yYemark among mining men
that Nevada county, which is, distinctively the leading mining county of the
State, is but indifferently represented in
that interesting collection. The Superintendent of the Bureau would be much
= _ gratified if he could secure such an exhibit from Nevada as the county is deserving, but our mining companies seem
not_to_have felt the necessity of being
properly represented in the Bureau and
hence the meager display. It is not rich
gold ‘specitiensthat-—aredesired. but
characteristic “ores -and__minerals, and
: specimens of enclosing wall rocks, that}
would serve the mining student with an
; object lesson or the sight-seeing visitor
with a knowledge of the various mineral
resources of a county;that has a worldwide reputation a3 4 producer of the precious metals. This defect in the Bureau
collection should be reimedied by the
mining companies, who can by-a little
effort add a large and interesting number
of éres from the ‘county, which when received there will be rumbered and classi
fied and miade to form a valuable feature
of the Bureau's collection. . John B.
