AUGUST 16. '93, A Forest Fire, Monday afternoon about 3 o’clock a terrible fire broke out in the woods on the north side of Hartung Mountain, near Kentucky Flat, says the Telegraph. The place is now owned by the Kohler Bros., of this place. It was raging fire indeed, for it started on that part where for 30 years inflammable matter has been accumulating. The. flames spread very rapidly and it was but a short while until the whole neighborhood was eut fighting the fiery fiend. It was by the hardest and most heroic efforts that they succeeded in quenchirg the fire. and then not until 20 acres of timber and brush had been ‘burned. Among the proceedings of the last meeting held on Monday evening we find the following: The Clerk was instructed to give notice, calling attention to Section 6, chapter XI, which reads as follows: Every physician or other person practicing mid-wifery, under whose charge or su~ perintendence, any birth shall occur within the City of Grass Valley, shall fill up and deliver to the Board of Health Officer, within forty-eight hcurs after said birth, a blank schedule to be furnished on application, by said Board, containing the particulars of said birth, as to sex, coler, residence and name of parents; and in case the birth of any child has occurred without the attendance of a practitioner of mid-wifery, or should no other persori or nurse be in attendance immediately thereafter, then it shall be the duty of the parents of said child to report its birth to said Board within the manner and form above described; and the said Board shall keep a record of the certificates of birth so furnished in a boek kept for that purpese, and shall report a transcript of the Board of Health. THE PAIR. — Arrangements for the Pavilion Are Progressing Satisfactorily. Charles H. Mitchell, Superintendent of the Pavilion, is making every effort to have the exhibits at the District Fair this year equal, if not excel, in number and quality, those of any previous year: The mineral vegetables and cereals it is thought will be a grand sight. The residence of Charles Hastings, six miles from Marysville, was destroyed by fire at 10 o'clock Monday night. His eighteen months’ old baby perished in the flames. Mrs. Hasting and three children were asleep on the ground floor.. When she awoke she discovered the house on fire. She hurried, snatched up the two oldest children and took them out, and returned for the baby, whom she could not reach, who perished in the flames. A three year old child was badly burned about the feet. z . Mrs. Hastings was badly burned en both legs and arms, and side of the face, and suffered a severe nervous shock, The cause of the fire was not ascer ained.
