Developments at the Mines Around
Thére— Extensive Operations Going On.
The following notes. are from Friday's Sierra City Tribune:
The Si Buttes is not'to be dismantled, or in other words abandoned.
It is too late in the season to do
much now, but next year the twentystamp mill at No. 7 will be rebuilt and
it will be erected in a place where
snowslides will not be likely to reach
it. In addition to taking out enough .
ore to keep the mill going there will
be prospecting going on, and perhaps
the future history of this mine will
figure something after the Plumas
Eureka, which. mine our readers will
remember went down to a very low
ebb afew yearsago. In fact operations wére about to be susponded there,
but a little further prospecting was
done, a new body of ore was opened
up and the mine today is paying
handsome dividends. The ‘Sierra
Buttes is a big mountain and the mine
named after it has been a big institution, too, but there is no reason to suppose that the great. hiil has yet delivered up all-of ita riches, ¥
Three miles south-west from the
Mountain House the Golden Giant
drift mining company is operating,
[hey have run a tunnel twelve hundred feet into the mountain and are ©
now engaged in putting in a Burleigh
drill. As soon as the drill is got in
working order the tunnel will be
pushed ahead to the channel, which it
is figured upon will be reached in six
hundred feet further. The drill machinery. was purchased from A. ©.
Busch, of this pluce, who is also one
of theowners in this enterprise, John
Gale, of the Mouniain House, and
several Downieville parties compose
the balance of the company.
The road leading up to the Mountain mine, which Messrs. Hagerty and
Flint have the contract to build, will
be completed inside of three. or four
days. ~ Work on the tramway is being
pushed ahead as rapidly as possible
and the contractor expects to have it
running inthree or four weeks. The
mill is covered and the battery blocks
are being placed in position, The
mill will be ready to start up by the
time the tramway is completed,
Three additional stamps have been
ordered from the Downieville foundry
forthe mill at the Wm. Tell mine.
Lhe present three stamps are pounding away regularly and the plates are
showing upin fine shape. Mark the
Tribune’s prophecy: the Wm, Tell is
going todevelopinto one of the big
mines of California.
Up at the Mexican ledge, located
above the Wm. Tell mine, and owned
by lony Grass and Caspar Joos, a
shalt is being sunk and lately a good
looking vein of four or five feet in
width was encountered. That seems
to be a good neighborhood for quartz
ledges. ees
.A.L.Moore and Messrs. Taylor &
Cfhomas, the surveyors, are running
