BRE Rinccertse apnea ular develupment.as.well as color and _viA Few [nducements Which Nevada Couuly “from the summit of the Sierra Nevada id ain — aan = Ze mv _— Offers to Settlers. 7 u a ¢ —_— ‘ During the past few weeks the Transcript has received about a dozen letters from as many different States asking for thetinformation herein contained, and to save letter-writing is the reason for this publication: First--Large areas of fertile lands, se. . eured by Government patent, caf be purchased at such reasonable figurés that a few . huadred dollars is sufficient to pay fora small farm. : Second—The standard fruits grown in this county are the finest of their varieties grown in the world; They are of a superior flavor and have a firmness of texture that gives them better shipping and keeping qualities than those grown at lower alti tudes, and they fiud a ready market-at remunerative prices. : Third—The long summers permit of the rotation of crops, and the raising of two and even three different crops from the same land in @ single season. Fourth—There is a ready market for all farm products at good prices. . Fifth—There are excellent means of trans. portation, the railway penetrating the central portion of the county. : Sixth—There is an abundance of timber. Seventh—There-is-an inexhaustible supply of pure water, both for irrigating and }domestic purposes. 8 Fighth—The temperature is mild, both in summer and Winter, and is not subject to sudden changes. Ninth—The climate will compare favorably with that of agy other section of the Pacific Coast, even with the most favored, there being no malaria with its resulting chills and fever, no violent winds, no fogs, uor floods. Tenth—The children reared in this climate and at this altitude above the ‘sea usually acquire better physical constitutions; . .” with more plumpness and firmness of mustality of. the blood than those reared in the valley or even coast counties. With this brief statement of facts, however, let it be understood that we do not claim for Nevada county that it is a paradise on earth, nor even the popular romance of sub-tropical glories. : Nevada county lies a litt’e north of the eéntral line of California, and -contains a population of ‘about 25,000. It extends mountains, on the east line of the State, westward-a distance ef seventy miles to the Sacramento Valley. It is from twelve to twenty miles‘wide. The altitude is from two to three thousand feet.along its. central portion and less than one thousand feet elevation in the western or valley region. The line of the Central Pacific Rajlroad crosses the eastern boundary, and traverses the southern portion of the county for many miles. It:then enters Placer, county, following close to thé southern boundary of Nevada county till near its western limit. The Nevada County Narrow Guage Railroad counects with the Central Pacific at Colfax and extends thence north te the central-portion of the county, passing through Chicago Park, Grass Valley, and terminating. at Nevada City—twenty-two miles from the Central Pacific Overland Railroad, The central pertions contain most of the rich gold mines, including quartz, hydraulic and placer mines together with the upper portion of the Horticultural belt, while the western or foothill regien consists exclusively of agricultural and grazing lands. The hortieultural and agricultural section of the county comprises about 250,000 acres of land, a large per centage of which is adapted to cultivation.’ The topography of the county is such as to give variety to the products. _ We grow successfully in Nevada county: Oranges, lemons, citrons, figs, olives, “Bartlett pears, apples, peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, gooseberries, hazel nuts, black: walnuts, chestnuts, almonds, and every kind of vegetable grown, ‘Nevada City is the county seat of Nevada county, There are five daily, one tri_ weekly and three weekly newspapers published in the county, The fcllowing named towns are in Nevada county: Nevada City, Grass Valley, Truckee, Boca, Rough and Ready, Spenceville, Indian Springs, North San Juan, Birchville, Sweetland, Cherokee, French Corral, Columbia Hill, Lake City, Malakoff, Nerth ‘Bloomfield, Derbec, Moore’s Flat, Orleans Flat, Graniteville, Ormonde, Washington, Alpha, Omega, Bear Valley, You Bet, Quaker Hill, Hunt's Hill, Red Dog, Little York, Chicago Park, Buena Vista, Blue Tent, Mooney Flat, Boston Ravine, Allison Ranch, Forest Springs, Patterson, Maybert. —_—_—_—_—_——_———— »Notiee-ef Proving Will.
