" “Hugh Corcoran made a sensible He said the hydaulic mining question had been settled once and forever, and that the convention could not revive it. Munday and Del Valle, of Los Angeles, made buucombe speeches in favor of fostering the mining industry, and Ford’s addition was. mude, the Capler motion voted down and the hydraulicksu talk against tl.e proposition. ANOTHER ACCOUNT. ~ A special. to the Oakland. Tribune says: i : “John D. Grady of Fresno, who is the chronic nuisance of the Convention, tried to talk, but instead of recognizing him, a bald-headed, high voiced old chap from Placer, who announced himself as-‘‘a grizzly from :hé moduntains,” was given the floor. He talked io favor of the mining industry. When he had become worked uptoa notch which called for a little blowing offof the safety valve, he came within-an inch of gaying ‘every dam one of you’ and the Convention laughed for three minutes. [hen a man from Nevada City wanted @ mining clause added, and another deluge of talk wus precipitated. ‘lhis washed out about half the people in the galleries and the rear seats, and # passing band playing ‘Hail to the Chief? drew off etill more.’’ AND STILL ANOTHER. This is a special to the Bulletin: “Ford of Nevada City offered an ad dendum providing that mining shall hig encouraged by the General Goverment by appropriate legislation where *t can be done without injury to other iaterests. hately necessary to carry the mining Martin said this was absoeounties. The Republicans had ignoredthe miners and if the Democrats declared in their favor it would greatby strengthen the ticket. San Joaquin said the proposed plank wrould lead to trouble in the Sacramento Valley and he thought in the interest of harmony the matter should be let alone. No ona objected to hydraulic miners if they will take care of their debris. Del Valle of Los Aneles spoke in favor of adopting Ford's amendment. 'A vote was finally taken. and Ford’s amen iment was adopted.” Corcoran of Another Cement Walk. Mrs. Harriet McNamara of 819 State Street, Trinidad, Colorado, while visi in 8t Louis last summer, did not suffer with her usual sick headaches and indigesti But upon her return to Trinidad her old troubles came upon her. It was not the St Louis climate that did so much for her. The secret is told in the following letter, received: by Thomas Price & Son, the wellknown assayers of 524 Sacramento Street, San Francisco. Mrs. McNamara writes:— “Three months since I was visiting in &t. Louis, and obtained two bottles of Joy's Vegetable Sarsaparilia. It was of great re! ef to me in my headaches and indigestion. my return to my home in nidad I feel the need of it, and as I have lost the address I write to re ask if you will Lot kindly forward this to the proper number in San co, and have me sent a few more of this valuable vegetable compound.” People having used Joy’s Vegetable Sarsacae eames A TAKING PROPOSITION. Holding the County Conventions . tm Fair Week furored. The Transcairr’s suggestion abcat holding the county nominating conventions of the Republicans and Democrats during Fair week has strock the public generally, as well as the politicians, with favor. The Fair managers as far as heard from agree that it would be a good Way to do. ‘Holding. one of thé conventions on Monday would not interfere in any degree with the Eair which does ‘not begin till Tuesday. If the other convention were set for say Wednesday, it would prevent the delegates representing that faction from attending the races for one day, but there will, sot be enongh of those delegates to cause «# serions falling off of the Park receipte by reason of their absence on that day. If the conven'ions are held a week before or a week after the Fair, it will be the means of keeping a great many of the outside delegates from coming to the Fair, as they would not in numerous. instances feel warranted in incurring the expense of two trips to this part of the county, and would regard their duty to their party as of more importance than a pleasure trip to the Fair. People from all parts of the county will be congreg teu during Fair week at this city and Grass Valley, and the nominees of the conventions will have asplendid opportunity to electioneer among them. ‘ The foregoing and scores of other reasons are being urged on the streets and elsewherein behalf of the adoption. by the County Central Committees of the Transcrip:’s plam TOM HENRY. Another forty-Niner Joins the Silent Majority. Thomas Henry,a native of Lonisiafta ayed 53 years, died about twelve o'clock Thursday noon at-thecounty hospital where he has made his home for some fifteen years past. Tom Henry, as he was familiariy called, came across the plains in 1849 as whelper with a train that numbered when it left Salu Lake 75 wag ons, all loaded with merchandise. The route selected was via Los Angele, the train being the first to come that way. More than hallf thie wagons had to beabandoned before reaching Lox Angeles, and caches were made for the:r-contents. Henry was during the-early part of his residence here a bar-keeper in Birker’s Exchange. He afterward was a partner in Tom & Dan's’ salvon and restaurant, and was for a brief period local agent for the opposition stage line from here to Marysville. In 18540r 1855 he was. elected coroner on the Whig ticket. He for at.merun on a Sicramento steame, tended bar at Sacramento, and later made his home awkile at Virginie City. The cagéin which it rade was a wooden crate about five feet long, three feet wide and three feet high, so there was plenty of room for it to turn around. Mr. Orear is a famous fancier of dogs.
