ADMISSION DAY.
Hydraalic Parlor Will Go to Marysville fn Style.
At last evening’s meeting of Hydraulic
Parlor the Native Sons decided to go in
rockaways to the Admission Day celebration at Marysville. The coat of trahsportation will be $3 foreach member and
the Parlor will pay the bill out of its
special fund.
Under this arrangement it is quite likely that as many as fifty of the Hydraulickers will attend, a3 the expense of the
trip will fall very gently on the boys.
"Today the Marysville committee enquired by telegraph if Mountain Division
Band would accompany the Parlor, and
the; local committee replied that the
Band would be taken if the Maryaville
Natives could contribute sufficient to the
amount required to pay the musicians.

A valued correspondent of the Transcript sends the following interesting
item under date of Monday last :
Sunday morning I was told that a wild
said a man disguise) had been passed and
spoken to by some: men while returning from Poorman’s Valley, one of the
wildest spots in the mountains. She looked
wild, would not speak, had a handkerchief tied around her head, and was bathing her forehead in a stream besjde the
trail. There are no camps near the locality. All is a wilderness. She had two
valises. ‘The men passed her Saturday
afternoon. The locality is north of Graniteville about eight miles. About two
o'clock Sunday afternoon the mysterious
woman came into Graniteville from the
opposite way, carrying her valises along
over her shoulders, and-of course creating
quitea sensation. Mrs. George Tyler,
like the good Samaritan of old, asked the
weary wanderer into the house, and with
a kindness that woman alone knows how
to dispense gave unto the pilgrim bread
After an honr’s rest she seemed prepared to start out again, right up into the
mountains. Should we'permit her to go
back among the deep canyons-and perish,
The State Board of Health has issued
a@ pamphlet of warning to the public
against diphtheria, which is now becoming quite frequent in this State. We
have just been reading of one or more
eases at Willows as raported in the Cola Sun and would advise our readers to
be on guard and use all necessary precautions to avert it.
The circular in question states that the
infectious substance of diphtheria is conveyed from the mouth, nose, air passages,
and discharges from the bowels of those
who have the disease. It is believed,
with some reason, that the perspiration
and urine may contain it. Domestic
animals, such as cats, dogs, chickens and
tame pigeons are credited with carrying
the disease from one person to another,
other by having the disease themselves,
or because of having been handled by
persons who were afflicted with it. It
may be transmitted in water, milk or
other liquids, or in food or clothing, or
by kissing a person who has sore throat
without suspicion that it may be diphtheria.
. The secretions of the mouth and nose of
a diphtheritic patient, mixed as they
must necessarily be, with the exudative
deposit, are often allowed to fall upon the

a Proposition Made to Sacramente by
Hydraulic Miners.
Last evening's Sacramento News says :
mountain aiid foothill regions keep on
sending word to+the people who live in
the valleys below that they have mines
capable of being worked without hurting
their neighbors. ‘‘Come up and make a
careful examination,” they say ‘‘and if
we do not prove our assertions we ‘shall
not ask to have these sttangling injunctions dissolved.” Nothing could be
fairer. The time must come when such
mines as these will be worked, and the
News hopes that science may supply
somé method for restraining the slickens
of the larger mines. When that is done,
and the mines are again permitted to
open up, it will be a bright day for Sacramento. Gold miners are good customers,
and Sacramento is their natural market.
But they can’t buy without they have the
mineral, and they are not able to get that
if denied the privilege of digging it from
the earth.
