Part eit apecnsettstitti tong o— AA A AI nin ici Bea cn Wie Sli e esas OUR SECTION. A Few Indocements WhichNevada County Offers to Settlers. During the past few weeks the Tran-~ script has received about a dozen letters from as many different States asking for the" information herein contained, and to save letter writing is the reason for this publication: First--Large areas of fertile lands, seeured by Government patent, can be purchased at such reasonable figures that a few hundred dollars is sufficient to pay fora small farm.Second—The standard fruits grown in this county are the finest of their varieties grown in the world, They are of a superior flavor and have a firmness of texture that gives them better shipping and keeping qualities than those grown at lower alti tudes, and they fiud a ready market at remunerative prices. Third—The long summers permit of the rotation of crops, and the raising of two and even three different crops from the same land in a single season, Fourth—There is a ready market for all farm products at good prices. Fifth—There are excellent means of transportation, the railway penetrating the. central portion of the county. Sixth—There is an alhundance of timber. Seventh—There is an inexhaustible supply of pure water, both for irrigating and domestic purposes. ; Eighth—The temperature is mild, both . in summer and winter, and is not subject to sudden changes. Ninth—The climate will compare favorably with that of any other section of the Pacific Coast, even with the most favored, there being no thalaria with its resulting chills and fever, no violent winds, no fogs, uor. floods. Tenth—The children reared in this climate and at this altitude above the sea usually acquire better physical constitutions, with more plumpness and firmness of muscular develupment as wef! as color and vitality of the blood than those reared in the . g — “we Walley OF 6Véii Coast Counties. ” ; With this brief sagtement of facts, ‘however, let it be understood that’ we do not clain for Nevada county that it is a paradise-on earth, nor even the popular romance ofsub-tropical glories: Nevada county lies a little north of. the central.Jine of California; and contains a population of about 25,000. It extends from the. summit.of the Sierra Nevada mountains, on the east line of the State, . westward a distance of seventy miles.to the Sacramento Valley. It is fromy twelve to twenty miles wide. The altitude. is from two to three thousand feet along its central portion and legs than one thousand feet elevation in the western or valley region., ‘The line of the'Central Pacific Railroad crosses . . the eastern boundary} and — travarses the southern portion of the county for many “miles. It then enters Placer county, fol-. lowing close to the southern boundary of . Nevada county, till near its western limit. ~The Nevada County Narrow G uage Railroad connects with the Central Pacific at Colfax and extends thence north to the central portion of the county, passing through. Chicago Park, Grass Valley, and terminating at Nevada City—twenty-two miles from the Central Pacific Overland Railroad.» ‘The , eentral portions contain most of the rich gold mines,” including quartz, hydraulic and placer mines together with the upper portion ef the Morticultural belt, while the western or foothill region consists exclu~ ively of agricultural and “grazing lands, ‘The hortieultural ayd agricultural section of. the county comprises about 250,000 acres @ land, a large per centage ef which is adapted to cultivation. The topography of the county is such as to give variety to-the products, We grow successfully in Nevada county: . Oranges, lemons, citrons, figs, olives, Bartlett pears, apples, peaches, nec“* tarines, apricets, plums, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, goeseberries, hazel nuts, black walnuts, chestnuts, almonds, and every kind of vegetable grown, Nevada City is the county seat of Nevada county. When a bobbin is to be wound the bolt is julled out enough to release the balance wheel, and turned slightly to the right or left where it is held by a stop-pin till the bobbin is 4lled. When the machine is liableto be meddled with by children, the bolt can be left out of the wheel when not in use, so tha cannot be operated by the treadle. pa diteine sesh on chit tacbinie fe admitted to be the rann ang most convenient o any, he machi i . very best tension and thread liberator, is mude of the tne wearing” parts hardened, and is finished in a@ superior styelt. 1t has ve ueored cover, drop-leaf table, end drawers and conwi, drawer, : manufacturers WARRANT FVERY MACHINE FOR 5 YEARS, the machine simplest, easice threading, has the maerial, with the Assessment Notice. ——, ARMONY GRAVEL MINING COMPANY H Nevads Gity, Only ‘ otios is hereby fives at at a meeting o 6 tora, the'4th day of duane, gt ee No, ll, of fan Cente per share wag.) the capital stock of the cor able Wednesday, September by bebl tothe y¥.' at the office of suid corporation, ad, Hf Cal, in U. 8, gold 6oin, Any Sut th whieh n aepasnent shall x a paid. on the, 6th day of dept, wht & averted pepe i at bohile suction aaa. cos lesa ment & F 3 be sola on Munday, septem , 1908, aw 6 hour of 1] o’clock a.
