Tregellas, a native of England. was naturalized Saturday evening on the testimony of Hugh MeCanley aad John Waters. Master Leo Carr on Saturday evening finished his task of getting 100 subscribers hea the San Francisco Post, and the next hing for him to do will be to learn to ride the premiuin bieycle he has earned. The city promises to be over-run this week with ‘‘toughsa” and ‘‘rounders” who make a practice of following the fairs, and an extra night policeman will probably be found necessary in order to keep them in check. ‘Tue remains of Mrs. Margaret Dougherty arrived at Grass Valley Saturday evening from St, Helena, Nupa county. The funeral took place from St. Patrick’s Church yesterday morning with high mais. The deceased formerly resided on or near South: Auburn street, Grass Valley. The Tmpounding Ordinnace. Another stray cow as put in the city pound last night. Marshal'Tompkins is winning golden opinions from.all sides for having the ordinance enforced. Of course any citizen has a right to put in the city pound cattle roaming at large within the corporate limits during the night-time, but what is everybody's business is nobody's business, ‘hence the employment of a man to look especially after thé strays. All of the City Trustees endorse the Marshal’s action, as do the citiana generally, but such endorsement does not make the law any stronger or the enforcement of it any more binding. me Judgment For Defendant. In the Sierra county case of Packer vs. Doray, Judge Caldwell, before whom the trial took place at Downieville last June, has rendered a decision for the defendant. The suit-was brought to qui-t title to gravel claims in Slate creek which is part of the boundary line between Sierra and Yuba vounties, and Judge Smith was _ disqualified from trying it. The California mine has several éxtensive veins which have been worked by various parties at different periods, aud as a consequence of those successive efforts alarge quantity of ore haa been exposed, exceeding perbaps that of any other mine in the county. It is also fortunately situated for cheap working, as the North Bloomfild ditch croes2s the property and the nature of the yround below the tunnel is such that any degree of fall can be secured, and it is said ore can be mined and milled for less than $1.50 per ton. Loosely and carelessly as the mine has been worked in the past, it has produced large amounts. of bullion. Messrs. James and Johns, engineers of the famous Sierra Buttes Company, who paid a visit to the property nog long since, were greatly impressed with all they saw, and the mine ranks high in the estimation of mining men generally. {t is a property that would just suit some -targecompany with the means to develope and equip it with the plant itneeds, and there are rumors of negotiations going on at presentin connection with a transfer.
