Fate of a Popular Captain of Cavairy in,

Circumstances That Led Up to the

Monterey, in the state of Neuvo Leon,
has been the theater of many military
tragedies, but the shooting of Savator
. Estuperron, second lieutenant of the
Mexican cavalry.“was: the saddest that
has ever darkened the antals of the state.
‘A brief history of the event which led
to this execution is necessary to a proper
understanding of the case.
A company of the Thirteenth regular
cavalry was ordered to do special duty
at Cadereyta, a smal] town on the Guif
road: The company was in command of
a first ieutenant and the deceased. A
dispute arose between the officers, and

Mrs. Caster Calhoun’s Good Fortune.:
Mrs. Margaret Gnster Calhoun, only
sister of the late General Custer, has
been appointed librarian in the state
library at Lansing, Mich. The selection
is not only a wise one—for Mrs. Calhoun
isa lady of much dignity, and ability—
but a grateful recognition of the memory
of three brave men. In the Little Big
Horn battle Mrs. Calhoun lost more than
any other woman. The disaster of 1876
cost her the lives of her husband, Lieutenant James Calhoun, her brother, General Custer, two younger brothers and a
nephew.
Since then she has supported herself
as an elocutionist and public reader, and . .
made a sticcess by hard study, prosecuted for distraction as much as gain.
Ata recent reading in Washington before the veterans of the United States
army she was surrounded after the entertainment by the old soldiers, who
shook hands and expressed their love
and admiration for her brave brother, to
whom she is thought to bear a striking
regemblance.—Chicago Letter.

of decreasing, actually creates more eruptious. You have noticed this when taking
other Sarsaparillas. [tis however now kuown
that the stomach, the blood creating power,
is the seat of all vitiating or cleansing operations. A stomach clogged by indiestion or
constipation, vitiates the blood, result pimples. A clean stomach and heolthfnl digestion purifies it and they disappear. Thus
Joy's Vegetable Sarsaparilla is compounded

It is exceedingly interesting to watch
FILOORING, RUSTIC,
a pretty woman who is too refined aud
too dignified to flirt, and yet who loves,
the admiration of men. One often sees
a masher, practicing his wiles in cars and
boats, encounter such a woman. He
rivets liis gaze upon her, adding to it a
smile of admiration and approval. She
seems not to see him, yet instantly her
manner changes. She engages her companion in an animated conversation, she
gesticulates, she-smiles, she launghs—she
does everything that adds to her charms.
You see that she is acting, and that, very
siviv, she keeps assuring herself that her
