RUSBY TALKS PLAINLY,
And He Voices the Sentiment Prevailing in
This Vicinity.
Marysville Democrat : After the report
for the Democrat of last evening was
closed, the matter of consideration of
anti-debris bills by the Supervisors
taken up.
In speaking of the oft-recurring bills
for the salary of watchmen, attorneys
and others nécessary expenses which’
have seemed to be absolutely a necessity
to prevent violations of the law and injunctions of the Courts, Supervisor Rusby
said ‘that with the prospective representations in Congress from this district it
was, in his judgment, useless to continué
the anti-debris litigation, and for that
reason he thought it would be folly to
allow any further bills incurred by the
anti-debris people.
Year after year this thing has been going on, and the amounts in the aggregate
taken from the treasury of the county
are an enormous sum. And instead of
the laws and injunctions being obeyed, we
find hy reference t» the reports made by
the watchmen that the number of monitors at work increase with each succeeding report. 5
Again, in referring to the recent action
of the delegates from certain valley
counties in the late Congerasional. Convention, he said the disregard shown for
the interests affected by the hydrarlic
mines was so plainly apparent and in
such direst covflict with the grounds
taken in the litigation that it places the
valley people in the position of not being
sincere. We should either stand together
and make a united effort or surrender now
and saye the further thousands of dollars,
which if paid out asin the past recent
years, will be money thrown away.
Mr.: Rusby further said that in his
judgment the time has come when there
should be a settled policy in regard to
this question, anda clearly defined course
for future action. He is willing tostaud
with the valley people and vote with
them, but when valley men are proposed
for office he wants the valley people to
show that they mean what they preach.
Grove L. Johnson is a member of the
executive committee appointed at the
River Convention January 16th, and was
unanimously chosen a representative ‘of
the valley interests at Washington, yet
defeated for the nomination of Congressman by the votes of men. professing loyalty to the valley interests, and now the
voters are expected to quietly swallow the
dose. : :
