DERELICTION OF DUTY.
— }
The Registry Law Violated by the Physicians
of Nevada County.
The physicians of Nevada City are the
only ones in the county who comply-with
the law in registering deaths, and the physicians of Truckee are the only ones who
register births. ' This neglect we believe is
the result either of carelessness or ef ignorance of the provisions of the law, as we can
see no object in notattending to it.
It is said that the matter will be called to
the attention of the next Grand Jury and
will be duly investigated.
‘The following are extracts from the law:
RECTION 3,075. All physicians and professional midwives must keep a registry of
the time of each birth at which they assist
professionally, the sex, race and color ef
the child, and the names and residence of
the parents, ‘
Sec, 3,077. _ All persons registering marriages, births, or deaths, must monthly file
with the County Recorder a certified eopy
of their register, All such certificates must
specify, as near as may be ascertained, the
name in full, age, occupation, term of -residence in the city or county, birthplace,
condition—whether single or married, widow
or widower—sex, race, color, last place of
residence, and cause of death of all decedents, i ian ease:
Seo, 3,078. If at any birth no physician
oF midwife attends, the parents must make
____the report. _
Any physician who intends complying
with the law can obtain the requisite blanks
free by applying to the County Recorder,

ELECTRIC RAILROAD,
It Will Be Built Between Nevada
Cily and Marysville
monies betes saeThat preliminary arrangements are being
made looking to the building-ofthe electric railroad from this city to Marysville
there is not a particle of doubt. A great
many people think that such a scheme can
be consummated in a few weeks, when in
fact it takes months to fermulate plans for
such a big undertaking before any field
work is done.” Every word that has been
published in the Transortrr in relation to
the building of the road from this city to
Grass Valley and thence to Marysville, is
true, the information coming to us from the
very highest authority, The storage system, which has proved such a grand success
in San Francisco, will be adopted.
The project of building this read has been .
carefully considered and as soon as all the
details are arranged men will be put into
It is only a matter of time. It is the firm belief of the
promoters of thik undertaking, first—
That they can land freight from San
Francisco to this city for $6 per ton.
That the passenger rate from this city
will be about $2 less than now charged.
That the time of going to San Francisco
will be lessened two or three hours.
And the many other advantages will be
fully explained in due time.
When the field work has actually been
commenced, aud if our gravel and quartz
mines continue to improve ad they have of .
late, there will be auch a big boom in Nevada City that it will scare the natives,
Never in the history of Nevada City has
the outlook for » substantial beom been so
apparent as now. i
In conversation with one of the leading
men of this city, who, is _theroughly posted
asto tha mines and what is being done
about the building of the electric road, told
the reporter that every prediction that had
been made by the Transcrirr would be
verified, and greater prosperity was in store
for Nevada City than we had’ ever asserted.
‘* But,” said he, ‘‘ there are se many of our.
people whe will not believe the road is to
be built, that I, for my part, am willing
that-they should eatertain-that— belief until
they see the track Iaid dewn on. Broad

it is only a question of time when they will

‘* And further, itis only a question of
time when the lands on the Grass Valley
road will be occupied and dotted with beautiful cottages.

verified,”

CAMINETTI.
Interviewed on the Mining and
thor Important. Subjects
Congressman Caminetti has just passed
over the S. P. R. R. on his way to Washington, A TRanscripr reporter boarded
his train at Sacramento on the way up_and
spent a pleasant hour with the Congress
man, Said the reporter—How do you
stand on the silver question, Mr,,Caminetti ?
Mr. Caminetti—I apm for free coinage.
Che present panicky state of affairs is due
largely to the contraction of the currency
and this contraction is due to the conspiracy
of the gold bugs of Wall street and.Londen.
Reporter—How is that?
Mr, Caminetti—Well, you see, the Sherman Act made silver an article of _speculatien and its effect gave opportuaity to spec—
ulate in the white metal just about the same
as in railroad stocks. Combinations were
formed which made a profit in either a rising or falling'market, at the expense of the
United States. The whole question of National finance and National securities has
become a question ef speculation for brokers
and bankers. But ‘in their effort to cinch
the Government, they _overdid_ the matter
and instead of preducing a mere stringency
in America, they produced @ panic in London, which ,caused London creditors to
“call in” their New York acceunts, and se
the very persons that intended to benefit by
the result have themselves been caught in
the trap—in other words the biters have
themselves got bitten. :
Reporter—What do you propose to. do
with the Sherman Adét?———
~Mr-CaminettiThe Sherman Act is nat
a good Silver Measure, bit: it ia better:-than
none. I, for one, will never vote for its repeal unless something better is offered as a
substitute,
would you suggest ?
Mr, Caminetti—Free coinage of American
silver into dollars, at a reasenable ratio to
gold, until the per capita of the currency of
the country is equal to fifty do'lars or thereabouts.
:
Reporter—Would you pay any regard to
the foreign ratios for silver'?
. Mr. Caminetti—None whatever.
ica is abundantly able to take care of its
among its own citizens.
out for itself,
Reporter—Yes, but won’t. free coinage
mean the dumping into the American treasury of the silver of the world? Won't it
mean an exchange of 70 cents for, a dollar,
at the expense of the American Governmeng?
Mr. Caminetti-Not necessarily, No silver need be coined except American silver,
hereafter preduced.
Reporter — How will you distinguish
American silver from Mexican or European?
Mr, Caminetti—Place such a heavy duty
on it, like the duty on opium, as will make
it unprofitable to import.”
Reporter—Yes, but does not that mean
high protection which is contrary to Democratic doctrines? Do you think the President will insist on hostile silver legislation ?
Mr, Caminetti—I think not. Mr, Cleveland’s views are exaggerated and in any case
he will not insist in controlling the legislation of the country. The whole South and
West are united on the silver question, If
there is any doubt about it I favor taking a
N ational vete of the people to decide
whether silver shall or shall not be regarded
as money,
Reporter—The silver could be officially
stamped according as taken frem our nines,
to identify it, for ceinage. Wouldn’t that
be better than the protective duty you speak
of ?
Mr. Caminetti—I hadn't thought of that.
Perhaps it might,
Reporter—What do you thiak of thé new
Senator—Perkins? I heard him say he
will act in harmony with the entire Cali.
fornian delegation in Congress.
Mr. Caminetti—Perkins is a personal
friend of mine and a first-class man in every
way. The best thing Governor Markham
ever did was to appoint him.
Let Europe look
on the silver and hydraulic mining questions ?
Mr, Caminetti—I have’ not the slightest
doubt of it. In this respect he is a great
improvement on Felton, who" was the bitter
foe of both:
Reporter—Do you expect to have any
changes made in the Caminetti Bill.
Mr, Caminetti—Not for the present, We
must first see how it will practically work
as itis, Todo this we must have money,
We must have @ half « million appropriCommittee of the Miners” Association
drafted certain amendments, but I told them

attempt to meddle with legislation before,
came very near preventing the passage of
any impounding law at all. It was only after
their agents gave up the fight and left
Washington that I could do anything at all.
Then I understand some of them have attempted to rob me of the honor, by pretending that I did not draft the Caminetti
bill, but a ‘greater falsehood was never
uttered. Then again, some of them I am
told, wanted my bill to fail, so they could
beat me at the last election.
~Reporter—Well, they didn’t~ do~it;-did
they ?
Mr. Caminetti—No, not by a long way.
I think I can do both farmers and miners
great service at the coming session of Congress, if they will only keep still and not be
meddling so much. Of course, if they insist
in dictating to me, the responsibility of a
defeat must rest upon them. .
At this stage a brakeman announced that
Mrs. Caminetti desired to see her husband
terminated,

This is what every system aftlicted with
chills and fever, bilious remittent, or any
other form of malaria disease, undergoes
periodically. Not only is malaria terrible in
itselfi—it is the breeder of an. infinity of
bodily ailments. Specifics used for its prevention and removal prove, in the vast majority of cases, useless for every other purpose than to mitigate the disease and stave
off its attacks. They are sure, with the average treatment, to return atter a while. The
sufferer may change his location to a healthier one, but the complaint, which is in his
blood, is not thus lightly got rid of, and re=
turns after the wonted interval. Organic
affections of the nerves, heart trouble, general debility of the system are the offspring
