DEATH. The Coroner's Inquest Exonerates Him for James Ryan Fouad Dead in Bed at the Na_ Kitling MeManaman, ee tional: Hotel. Between sixty and seventy invited guests assembled last evening at the residence of Thomas §, Ford, on West Broad street, to versary of Mr. and Mrs. Ford’s marriage. Congratulations upon From the State. The Executive Committee of the MidWinter Fair, which ig tobe held in. San Francisco from January 1, 1894, to July 1, 1894, are getting up a boon to induce Governor Markham to.call a special session } of the Legislature to make ‘an appropria— tion of a half million dollars for the project, They also want a law passed authorizing Boards of Supervisors of the various counties of the State to make special appropriaticns for their own exhibits, ; We think this is going a little too far, and really we do not believe Goyernor Markham will do anything more than give it a thoughtful consideration. There are hoste of r why a special session should not be held. Ef a special session is to be called it ouglit to be for the purpose of making an appropriation of $500,000 for the building of mining debris dams to enable the miners ‘to take out from $10,000,000. to $15,000,000 per annum and thereby restore the whole country to its normal financial condition, Thid ewould seem to be a case of urgent neceasity, but.the miners will not press an extra session at this time, for the very rea. son that there is net a dollar in the Staté treasury that could possibly be appropriated for any, such purpose. But, of course, if the Legislature.met they would find some way to get the money, even if they had to mortgage the State capitol building. It would-be better, liewever, iiot to call” that body together, for by the time they got through the people would have to be taxed about an additioual million dollars to foot all. the-billa: ~The people got’ thatr’ belliés full with that Legislature, and when they did finally adjourn, and it was hoped for ever, there were never so many ‘ Thank as on that occasion, Let us all pray that that same crowd will.never be called together again, There is another very strong reason why Governor Markham sheuld not “call that body together, and it is this: The Legislature is Democratic and George’C. Perkins, ate, and it would be as soft a thing as the Democrats would want. to get_a chance to! capture George's scalp. They would have the legal right to give Perkins the. grand bounee, for that is just what the Republicans did when: they Niad a similar chaner, If our memory: serves us correctly, in 1886 Senator Miller died and Governor Stoneman appointed the late George Hearst to fill the vacancy. Stoneman called the Legislature together that -year for some purpose, and the Republicans, being in the majority, their tirst act was to oust Hearst and elect A. B. Williams, Now, as the Demoératg are in the majority, if-an extra 8c sion was called the Democrats would get a chance to play back;the mean trick of the ernor Markham will not be green enough to eall that Legislature together. enEeaindne cone A Million Friends, A friend in need is a friend indeed, and nvt less than one million people have found just a friend in Dr. King’s New Discovery for Consumption, Coughs, and Colds,—If you have never used this Great Cough Medicine, one trial will convince you that it has wonderful curative powers in all diseases of Throat, Chest and Lungs.
