Ti.e stage betweea Sierra City. and On account of low water.the Ruby mine has discharged most of its men. Yhere were several sleighs in town this week. They had to run on the yround in the streets right in town, Dut just a little ways ont of Sierra City ihere is plenty of snow for sleighing. Chas. Rodgers, an old-time empleye of the Sierra Buttes mine and lately employed in the Yourg America, driving the mules that pull out the dirt, struck ‘a rich ledge recently at China. Flat, about seven’ miles below this city. The dirt from the ledge pays twenty-five ‘cents to the pan. He is engaged at present in organizing @ company to work the ledge. The company intend toerect a twenty-stamp mill on the ledze next Spring. . . . Whe tramway at the Mountain mine that has caused so much trouble, will soon be fixed and in running order. With tLe assistance of two gentlemen . from the East, Mr. Janeway will soon havethingsin shape, We are glad to learn this news, for the Mountain mine employs a goodly number of mem anu does much to support the town. , The mine will run all winter, if the tram-. . way is properly fixed, and will not have to remain idle until Spring, a was heretofore supposed. *Our attention was called recently to e great amount of advertising signs painted-on the rocks of the Sierra Buttes mountains. The signs advertise groceries, clothing and everything else that Marysville stores have to sell. We are informed that these signs are painted mostly by mining spies. Sv that’s the way they do business, is it’ It seems rather acurious way to work up a trade. The Marysville peopic senda man Up here to spy around anu kill our industries, and in consequence the towns that depend upon these inYet at the same time dustries to live. they are tryingto kill the town, they are endeavoring to sell their goods. It seems tous that Marysville mei~. }chants would ‘sell nore guods here i! the town were lively, than they would by trying to stopour Mining industry. Some people have queer ‘ideas of doing business anyway. The. moral o this little piece is, “Buy your goedsahome and don’t patronize the friend o1 a mining spy, bor the boulder-advertising merchant, — The shaft of the North Banner mine is sunk 70 feet below the No. 3 level, and when 100 feet is reached a new level will beopened. The mine co: tinues to look well, and the mill prom: ises to give profitable clean-ups. The vein in the west drift of the 200 lével of the Coe mine continues 1 improve in appearance, and good roc is being taken out all the time. A west drift has also been started from the 500-loot level, and will be pushe ahead as fast as possible, hour shifts of men. The farmers all speak of the recen' rains as having come just at therigh: time, as thsy bave been enabled t plow their ground and putin grain, and with occasional light rains, witt the Spring rains, which are sure t come, will ensure abundant crops. I is the Spring rains that make Califo nia crops, and therefore if January and February prove dry months there is no occasion for anxiety about goo. crops.
