outlines ‘are traced with, sepia, the solid
black parts filed in with lampblack and
the ornaments with a light shade of sienna,
the veining being carried out with sepia
and burnt sienna on a pale sepia. back,
ground., Another color combination is
dark brown for the solid black parts, olive
green for theleaves, bright yellow for the
scrolls and rosettes, burnt sienna for the
hackground, and carmine .mixed with
Slack for the veining. The same color
scheme holds good for staining and. imita
tion inlaying. . After the decoration has
been finished in of the ways described
above the surface has to be waxed. Tu
this end ordinary yellow beeswax is cut
into small pieces, placed in a glass vessel
and just covered over with turpeptine,until the mixture forms, by stirring, a semifluid paste, which is ‘then spread thinly
over the surface.of ‘the wood, and,.when
nearly dry. polished with a stiff brush.
