BELIEVED TO BE RICH.
Work Progressing on the Gravel Channel
atthe Old Hughes Ranch,
It is generally believed that the com
pany who are now running a tunnel in
the Hughes ranch, ou the old Grass Valley road, will strike very rich gravel
when they get the tunnel in. The last
pan of dirt taken out of the shaft on the
hill befure the» old company had ‘to
abandon is on account of the immense
flow of water, prospected very big. The
old company not having the wherewith
t. put up heavy machicery; went to
work running a drain tunuel. . Being
tinancially unable to progeed with the
work they bonded the property to experienced Grass Vajley miners, and now. the
work is going ahead and there seems to
be no doubt that a big propérty will be
opened up there. ‘he channel ‘runs
through the adjoining ranch, known as
the’ Morgan ranch, now owred by the
Nevada County Land and Improvement
Association, and thé. new company has
bonded the wining interest of the ranch
from the Association.

A PRIVATE STABLE.
Ge That Is Unequaled in This Part of
California.
L. Hyman, the well-known clothing
man, is the possessor of the largest and
most complete private stable in this part
of the State. His stable consists of
eight stalls for horses, a large harness
room, a grain room, three box stalls, a
rack for washing vehicles on, and four
apartments adjoining the stable where
are kept a speeding cart, road_ cart,
double surrey, single buggy and his big
delivery wagon. The buildings are
models of convenience. He has six
horses, one of-them, it is said, cdf ‘fly
the dust” in the eyes of any animal in
this section of the country. Mr. Hyman
bought the latter horse in Sutter county,
and he is known as ‘* Oscow.” It would
do a ‘‘horse man ’* good to visit this fine
establishment.
Terribly Dilapidated.
All of the cross-walks, we believe,
without a single exception, in every part
of ‘town, are in a very bad condition.
Now the city has dispensed with the
aightwatchman, Why would it not bea
yood idea to expend the money saved in
that way in putting in stone walks in
place of th: present wooden walks? It
is hoped the City Trustees will see it in
that light. It would be a fine improvement.

Topay Hiod’s Sarsaparilla stands et
the head in the medicine world, admired
in prosperity and envied in merit by
thousands of would-be competitors. It
has a larger sale than any other medicine.
Such success could not be won without
positive merit.

keeper, farmer and owner of a large bank
account, who was missing and which the
big city papers gave us long accounts of
where he was not, has turned up in a

health, and is staying with a ‘ormer ranch
hand of his. He says nothing about com_

Women
The common affiictions of

stomach disorders. As Joy s Vegetable Sarsaparilla is the only bowel regulating preparation, you can see why it is moro effective
than any other Sarsaparilla in those troubles.
It is daily relieving hundreds. Tho action is.
mild, direct and effective. We have scores
of letters from grateful women.
