ee The Dailu Transcript. aa SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1891 Ce, A Entrertatnment. Last night at Odd Fellows Hall, Co. A of Nevada Lodge, I. O. G. T., Captain Stella Beardsley, commanding, gave an entertainment and suppe.to Co, B. The entertainment consisted of sining, recitations and vocal music, inclading a» banjo. solo. by Al Koser of Sun Francisco. The supper was of the best and highly enjoyedby all. Special mention might be made of the seiting of the table, which was in the shape.of a crose (one of the _ emblems of the order) decorated with gree, vic. Thé attendance was larger than was expected not withstanding: the popular a'traction at the theater. The success of the entertainmert and supper was mainly due to the untiring efforts of Miss Stella Beardsley,* Captain of Co. A. After the supper dancing wasindulyed in. : ee as The Minstrels, Goodyear Elitch & Schilling’s Minstrels gave a creditable performance here last night to a very large audience._The stage mountings and _cos-. tumes were in, richness and beauty the nearest “approach -to those of Haverly’s Minstrels of any that have been-seen here -in-years. There is « first-class orchestra of moderate size, and the singing is reasonably good. The groupings and tumblings of the Leondor Brothers, the dancing of young Rastus, the shadowgraphs by Clivette and the vocal imitations by the Bentley Brothers were.ull notably good. Theonly feature that mars the symmetry. of an otherwise pleasing program is the act by ‘Mesers.-Symonds and Hughs, and that it should be ‘‘cut”’ was the general opinion of last night’s audietice. An Old-Timer. Phillip Wick, who died two weeks ago at ington Hill in this county, was a native of Hesse Nassaii; “Gormany. He was bornifthe year 1821. After serving his time as a soldier in the German Army he came to America. In company with brother Conrad he came to Dutch Flt in 1858. ‘heavy, —_ adi HRILLING EXPERIENCE. The following story—which is attracting wide oe from on be markable that we cannot excuse ouraives if we do not lay it before our readers, entire. 8 ‘ To the Editor Rochester (N. Y.)Democrat: Sm.—On the first day of June, 1881, I lay at. my residence in this city surrounded by my frisnds and waiting for death. Heaven vuniy knows the agony I then enduréd, for words can never describe it. “And ‘yet, if afew years previous any one had told me that I was to bé brought 80 low, and by so terrible a disease, I should ‘ave scoffed at the idea. I had always been uncommonly strong and healthy, and weighed over 200 pounds and hardly knew, in my own experience, what pain or sickness were. Very many people who will read this statement realize at times that they are wnusually tired and. cannot account forit. They feel dull pains in various of-the body and do not understand why. Or. they are exceedingly hungry one day andentirely without ape the next. This was jost the way I felt when the relentless malady which had fastened itself upon me first began. Yet many persons criginally possessed of a fair cunetitution snffer thie deprivation before the meridian of lifeis paxel. To any and al! subject to conditions inimical to health,no purer -or more agreeable preservative of the greatest ~ofearthly blessings can be recommended than Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, which inures~ the system to climatic chance, physical fatigue and mental’ exhausiiva. It eradieates dyapepsia, the bane of sodenta-y brain workers, preserves and restores regularity of the bowels and liver, when disordered from any cause, annibilates fever and ague and prevents it, checks the growth of a tendency to rheumatism and gout, aud neutralizes the danger to ‘be apprehended from causes productive of kidney, bladder and uterine ailments. To beconvinced of the truth of these statements, it is only neceseary to give this sterling preparation an impartial. trial. little attention to it. Then my stomach would get out of order and my food often failed to digest, causing at times great inconvenience, Yet, even_as_a_phvsician, I did not think that. these things meant anything serious. I fancied I was suffering from malaria-and doctored myself accordingly. ‘ -I next notice! a peculiar color and oaor about the fluids I was passing, aléo that there were large quantities one day and very little the next, and thata pe nt froth and scum appeared on the surface and a sediment: settled. And yet I did not realize‘my danger fr, in ‘eed, seeing these symptoms continually, i is) b came acécustu:ued to them, and wy suspicion was wholly disarmed by the fact that’l had no pain in the affected. organs or in their vicinity. My hiccoughs ceased: and I experienced less pain than formerly. ‘I was 80 rejoiced,at this improved condition that, upon what I had believed but a few days before was my dying bed, I vowed, in the presence of my family and friends, should I recover, I would both publicly and puree make known this remedy for the good of humanity, wherever and whenever I had an opportunity, and this letter is in fulfillment of that vow. My improvement was constant from that time, and in less than three months I had gained twenty-six pounds in flesh, became entirely free from pain and I believe I owe my life and present condition ‘wholly to Warner's Safe Cure, the remedy which I used. Since my recovery I have thoroughly re-investigated the subject of Reanee difficulties and Bright’s disease, and the truths developed are astounding. I therefore state, deliberately,—and—as-a pepees, that I believe more than oneif the deaths which oceur in America are, caused by Bright's disease of the kidneys. This may sound like a rash statement, but I am prepared to fully verify it. Bright's disease has no-distinctive features of its own, (indeed, it often developes without any pain whatever in the kidneys or their vicinity) but bas the symptoms of-nearly every other comman complaint. Hundreds of people die daily whose burials are authorized by a physician’s certificate as occurring frou “‘Heait Disease,” “Apoplexy,” ‘‘Paralygis,’’ °‘Spinal Complaint,” “‘Rheuma tism,”’ ‘*Pneumonia,” and other common complaints, when in réality it is from Brigiit’s disease of the kidneys. Feu physicians, and fewer people, realize th. extent of this disease or its dangerou und insidious nature. It steals into th. systern like a thief, manifests its presence if at all by the commonest symptoms and fastens itself in the constitution before the victim is aware of it, It is neatly as hereditary «4 eonsuinption, quite as common and iuliy as fatal. Entire families, inheriting it from their ancestors, have died, and yet none of the number knew or realized the mysterious power which was removing them. Instead of conimon symptoms it often shows none whatever, but brings death suddenly, from convulsions, Psp or heart disease. As one wha has suffered, and knows by bitter experience what be says, I implore evetyone who reacis these words not to neglect the slightest symptoms of kidney difficulty, Noone can afford to hazard such chances, I make the foregoing statements based upon facts which I can substantiate to the lettér.
