THE DAILY TRANSCRIPT.
BROWN & CALEKENS, Proprietors.:
TUESDAY EWNG FEB.
HEAVY . SNOWFALL.
Twelve Feet at the Summit, and Six Feet
at. Trackee.Record-Union:—A heavy snowstorm
raged all day Saturday and yesterday
about the Summit, where there was last
evening a depth of between. eleven and
twelve feet. The railroad officials have
been ‘kept busy in preventing-ebsetrection ~~
“fo traffic over the niountains where. the
common snow-plows have been employed
successfully in keeping open the road.
Assistant Division Syperintendent
Jones came down last evening. from
Truckee andreports the snow six feet
deep there on the level, The town is,
of course, nearly half-buried and the railroad people are having considerable difficulty-in keeping open their side-tracts
there.
Fifty men were sent up from here last
night to shovel snow in Truckee. At
last accounts the snow was still falling
and drifting badly from the effects of the é
high wind.
The. snowstorm extended down’ the
mountain on this side to below New
England mills, where two inches had fallen up to yesterday afternoon. The overland road was open clear
threugh and trains were all running,
though this morning’s westbound is somewhat late.
This heavy snowfall, which also extends throughout the region of the headwaters of the Sacramento River, will
have the effect ef keeping that .stream
up toa high mark even though there
should be no heavy rainfall spam. ccmcushier

The whole town was in an uproar and

Did you ever step te think what a
tireless writer’ a good local paper is?
Week ‘after week, reaching into year
after year, it goes on telling of the mar

business success or failure, accidents,
crops and improvements, meetings, in
fact events of-all-kinds. All is-grist that . comes to the hopper of a good local paper, Why if you were to undertake to
write a letter every week to your absent

despair. The supposed pleasure would
become tiresome, and the letters weuld
grow shorter, : farther apart, and finally
quit. Why the difference?. Because
with a newspaper it is a business. People in a live town recognize this and take
pleasure in giving the editor news item
