What the San Franciseo Chronicle Has to Say About Thea. There is every indication thus far that the mining convention has accomplished one good result, namely, the restoration ofa friendly feeling between the farmers % An Theater but Did Not See the Show. «A BRAZEN DEADHEAD, looking yourig fellow in evening came up to me as I was standing in lobby and asked me what box had, been reserved for him. I said I did not know him—who was he? He said he had met the manager of the theater that afternoon, and he had been told to come to the theater and his name would be left for a box. Unfortunately he entered too much into details. He told me that his name was Leslie, and he was a leader writer and subeditor of The Morning Wire. As and the miners which, only a very few} knew my manager was rather in the years ago, would have been deemed im-. habit of giving these somewhat vague possible, and which in reality would have . imvitations to the theater, I thought it been impossible. The farmers seem to to have abandoned their position that better to err on the sidé of politeness, so I gave Mr. Leslie the ticket for the box, and he thanked me and said he would hydraulic mining could not and should. >, to g neighboring restaurant where not be carried en in California under any . his friends were dining and bring them __ circumstances, and the miners seem will-jon to the theater.. __ i. ae ing to admit that the farmers have rights ‘As the principal piece ‘was © which they are bound'te respect and pro-jing Isaw Mr. Leslie enter the ti If this sentiment can continue, as it probably will, all parties concerned will be surprised to find mountains of difficulties‘shrink and contract into melehills. F. sets of people only want to think alike they find it the easiest-matter in the ‘werld to make their epinions harmonize. The fact is, of course, that the farmers of California ‘see that the great mining industry of the State is essential to their presperity, and the cities and tewns ' which occupy a middle ground between the miners and the farmers, such as Sacramente, Stockton, Marysville, Oroville and others, feel this in an especial degree. They were entirely right in defending themselves against what they believed to be the aggressiong, of the miners, but none the ‘less is it to their interest that hydraulic mining be revived, provided it can be éarried' on within proper limitations. They see that now. much more plainly than they did a few yearsago, and hence their change of attitade is not only natural, but perfectly proper and consistent. Added knowledge must crea’e changes of opinion or it is not knowledge at all. We feel perfectly confident that some feasible and practicable plan can and will be found whereby hydraulic mining can and will be carried on without serious tetriment to others interests, at least without such detriment as cannot be compensated by the payment of money damages. Whatever this plan may be it is. likely now that it will be tried without any fractious or unreasoning opposition from the farmers er the people of the cities lying in the river valleys of California. Taken for a Crank. A semi-fiendish delight often seems to possess people of strong nerves in sneering at those with weak ones. The irritability of the nervous hypochondriac is ridicuted as naturalill temper. The very genuine and distressing symptoms from which:he suffersare madelight.of. ‘‘He” or ‘‘she is a crank!” is the cheerful sort of sympathy with which the nervous _invalid meets from the unfeeling and the thoughtless. At the same time no complaint is more defined and real, nene has ‘@ more easily explainable origin when it . is chronic. Imperfect digestion and assimilation are always accompanied by nervous debility and anxiety. Build up the powders of assimilation and digestion with Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, and nervous symptoms, sick headaches and a ~—generally-feeble condition of the system are remedied.
