by tiring the Democrats out in a continuous-session ;
lasted day and ni-zht since Friday

whether the bill will ever be voted

the final passage of the bill is the fact
.that the Republicans who voted with
the Democrats for free coinage are
now--voting with their party on questions affecting the election bill. The
Democrats say that the bill can never
be passed unless the cloture rule is

But after all. the subject about

these restrictions are no one seems to

a fishy lock.
It now looks as if some big fish might
becaugtitin the drag net of tite House
committee that is inve-tigating the
silver pool charges The commit ee
was informed at its first meeting, helu
Saturday, that Senator Stewart had
stated that be had personal knowledge
of Senators speculating in silver; it
was also informed that an official of
the House had stated that he knew of
Congressmen who would get into
trouble if the investigation wag rushed.
These two gentlemen and others
whose names have been furnished the,

and if they tell there’s squally times
ahead for some people.
Mr. Wananiaker’s postal telegraph
scheme is not making much progress
in the House cunimittee on Postoffices.
It barely escaped being permanently
pigeon-holed a day or two ago, the
vote on a motion to indefinitely postpone its consideration being 7 to 7. In
fact this vote is taken to mean its
practical’ abandonment, which — after
all would be no loss to the people at
large.
The Democrats in the House have
adopted a policy of delay, which will
be kept uuntil the Senate disposes
of the election bill. They wish to be
in a position to antagonize the electioe
bill, if it shculd poss the Senate, when
it returns to the House for action on
the Senate amendments with the regular-appropriatien bills, and they will
succeed, if the Republicans fail in’ the
efforts they are making to get a quorum of their Own members in the
House.
Senator Teller has again denied that
any combination was made by him
and the other Republicins who voted
for free coinage with the Democrats to
secure the:passage of the bill. .

THE BRUNSWICK MINE.
Assessment Ne. Landthe Reasen
For It.
AssessmentNo.‘1 of 2 cents a share
has been levied by the Brunswick
Mining Company of New York whose
quartz claim is lecated at Grass Valley.
A circular just issued by the vice president explains the necessity for the
assessment. The development thus
far has been so satisfacte-y that an assessment.-was deemed wise to provide
funds for pushing the work further so
that sufficient’ accumulation of ore
could be obtained to keep the mill running‘after it has beén started.
Superintendent Fitzgerald’s last letter to the head office says: Week onding: December 18th, employed six miners, two engineers at $3 per day.
Work in mine is being pushed as fast
as possible, all indications show we
are going te have a goed mine. I
have.extended east drift 15 feet and
west 5 feet; east drift is being run on
three eight-hour shifts, and west by
ten-hour; quartz in both drifts is: bighly mineralized, showing as good as
that assayed. Two ledges are coming together in east drift and that in
west is.incrensing in size, being
about eighteen inches” now, that in
east is about 2 feet. I hever—was
more impressed with the fact ef having
a good mine as since started drift, for
the best rock-cressed the shaft and 1
did not expect t» get it for atleast 30
feet; expecially as it was a hanging
wall ledge, and it might have proyed
}@ stringer, but there is no-doubt of ith.
being the true fissure ledge; and ‘holds
out. I-may yet it better as we get
ip, and expect to find the good rock
of the same character that ig in the
floor of the level above, if so, I will
take out considerable milling quartz,
[I suppose yeu know that running
drifts is only proving the ledge, and
for taking out ore enough for the mill
it is necessary to stope; to do that,
raises have to be made and stopes run
from them; all this is necessary: befere you can get ore enough to mill.
You must do all this dead work before
you have a mine open. Buy if the ore
turns out as well as it is now you can
afford to wait for all that work, for it
will make your mine ten times more
Valuable than it is now.

The Same @1a Fight.
A Sacramento correspondent says
in yesterday’s Oakland Tribune: The
old, old fight between the river far mers and the hydraulic miners was renewed yesterday on the bill to repeal
the act declaring the Klamath rivera
navigable atream. Jn the Senate the
mining mengwho are in the majority
on the Commifttee on Mines, reported
iu favor of the bill. Senators Ostrom
and Dray, the river men, presented a
minority report against-it. Still, the
straggleis not apt to assume the bitterness of former session and as the
bill has passed the Assembly it will
probably become a law and hydraulicking ‘will be resumed on the
Klamath water shed.
