Bad Scorhing. a Norwegian Sailors. Sacramento, June 30.—The Bee’s Spokane Falls special says that a mys ‘. terious homicide occurred there ‘last night, Peter M. Johnson, a Dane, ac: companied by two countrymen, were on their way to their cabin. Johnson’s companions, who were walking one on each side of him, were suddenly startled by hearing a shot fired. At the same instant Johnson fell with a bullet hole in his forehead. — Death was instantaneous, Twomen were seen to run off inthe darkness as the shot was fired. The officers were at once notified of the crime, but can obtain no clue to the perpetrators. Everything 1s bustie and activity at the Mountain mine, Down on the bank of the North Yuba river, where the grading for the forty stamp mill is, about completed, the big boarding house is-well under headway and will soon ‘be ready to occupy. A large force of men have been put on the road and flume and the contractors propose to push it through in the time allotted to them. The contractto build the wire-rope tramway, has been let to the Trenton, New Jersey, Iron Co. Parties will arrive here before long to inaugurate that work. Among other things it is alleged that the rock has not been properly tested, and that the property had twice-beenabandoned. Neither of the allegations are trae. Tha same writer advises that a few thousand tons be worked at the Young America mine in which, it says, are many idle stamps, Thisis untrue, every stainp in that mil) being busy. The cause of Hthe article is not difficult to guess, and it is probably a refusal on the part of the managers of the mine to be blackmailed, / isan Francisco News Letter. } The Bald Mountain Extension tunnel, near Downieville, is in nearly 4,400 feet, and for some time pagt the rock has been soft enough to pick, and no ting was required.
