Property. Valuation,
In today’s Transcripr we publish a
full report of the foutings of property
valuations as shown by County Assessor
Cal. R. Clarke's books. The report
makes a fine showing, as it was generally believed that there would be a large’
falling off from that of last year’s assess.
ment on account of the reduced valuation
of the Idaho quartz mine of Grass Valley, the “destruction” of Boca Brewery,
and other properties which have heretofore been assessed for large amounts.
The assessments in the above cases are
$131,000 less than that. of last year, and
yet County Assessor Clarke and his
deputies have -brought up valuations to
$35,975 over that of last year. If the

FREDERICES,
The Desperate Outlaw’s Location Is Stil Unknown to the Officers. oe
The exciting telephone mersage from
Quaker Hill on Saturday, stating positively that Fredericks, the supposed
murderer of Sheriff Pascoe, had taken
dinner at A. P. Clark's boarding houxe
on that day, proved to be another case
of mistaken ideatity. Under Sheriff
Douglass and ex-Under Sheriff Schmidt
went to that place immediately after the
meas ge was received. They returned
about 9 o’clook in the evening.
Five miles above Quaker Hill they
overhauled the tramp who had taken
dinner at Clark's. He resembled Freilericks very closely, but when the officers
examined his body the tattoo marks that
respects he answers the description
almost exactly. The officers say he is
the same man they saw in Marysville a
few days ago, and who was examined at
that time on suspicion of being the man
whu is wanted. He had no pistol or
other weapon, except a pocket . kuife,
and from this it is thought that he is not
the same fellow who showed-up at-Jones’
Bar the other day.
It seems that the tramps are making
capital out of this matter. Fredericks’
description has-been published far and
wide, aud all that a tramp has to do who
bears any resemblance to hin is te go to
&* house, tell the folks he is suspected of
above named properties had been ‘equal . having killed Sheriff t’ascoe, but that he
to that of last year the gain would have
been in the neighborhood--of $200,000!
Mr. Clarke has handled the Assessor’s
