voted yesterday eight to one to issue
bonds to the extent -of $100,000 for

of Martinique has been destroyed by
fire. The loss was three million dollars. Many lives were lost and there

shows a falling off of $4,783 as compared with 1899, when the total valuation

What Is Left From the Fourth
of July Funds—Which Is
Doing Quite Well.
The committee of nineteen who had
in charge the Fourth of July celebration at this city met at the courfhouze
Wedneeday evening to wind up business. Fourteen members were presentand Chairman Niles Searls presidThe minutes of the last meeting
were read. :
The finance. committee reported
they had vouchers for $837 50 paid
out, and had $33.50 in the sack.
obhe literary committee’ reported
rttidt they had expended $40.90 out of
the $50 apportioned to them.
The committee on invitations reported they had expended the $2 allowed them.
The printing committee reported expenditures to the amount of $76 50,
leaving a ‘deficiency of $1.50. The appropriation was $75.
The band committee reporied that
they had drawn $208 from the treasury and spent it all.
The stréet parade. com:uittee reported expenditures amounting to $96.52,
the appropriation being $70.
The hall and salute committee had
expended $41.31, of which $15 was
forthe Theater. The appropriation
to this committee was $30. ,
The fireworks cominittee .said they
had spent all but $4.05 of ‘the $200
appropriated to them.
The street amusement committed
reported that they had left $10.50 of
the.$40 allowed them.
The Goddess of Liberty committee
reported that the cost of the costume
was $3.75 in excess of the $20 appropriated.
It was reported that 59 meal tickets
for various hotels, amounting to
$29.50, had been given out, but that
7 had not been presented and there
wasinthe hands of the committee
$3.50. The latter sum was on motion
returned tothe sack.
It was reported that the firemen had
received $100 from the comusittee and
had expended $128.
Tt was reported that the militiamen
had expended all of the $20 allowed them.
A summing up of all the bills showed that there was 60 cants leftin the
treasury after all bills allowed had
been paid. =

thanks to all persons who assisted in
making the late celebration an unqualified success.

A St. Louis gentleman whose affliction
