A Boy's Fast Ride.
This forenoon the City, Water Company’s horse, which was attached to a
buckboard, started from a point on lower
Main street where it had been left standing and ran up Coyote street to the vicinity of the C atholic Church where Henry
Richards caught it. W.F. Englebright’s little son was in the vehicle, but
courageously clung to the. seat and escaped unhurt.
County Treasurer's Deputy.
The supervisors today made an order
granting the county treasurer a deputy
nine months in the year.at a salary of
$100a month. The treasurer has heretofore been allowed $400 a year for deputy
hire, but the new law providing for semiannual collection of taxes renders it necessary that he have more help. H. J.
Wright is the treasurer's deputy at pres«nt.
Suit For Attorney’s Fees.
* The suit of A. D. Mason of this city

$250 alleged to be due for legal services
rendered in Trinity county, will be tried
before a jury in Justice Mulloy’s court on
Monday, the 27th instant. Defendant
this morning tried to get a change of venue to Grass Valley, but his honor denied

CAMPBELL NOMINATED.
Cievenanp, July 15.—The Demoeratic convention was called to order at
10:45 a.m. The hall was beautifully
decorated and there were chairs for 5,000
people. Chairman Norton concluded his
speech with a touching enlogium on Allan
‘}. Thurman, which was received with
thunders of applause.
The son of Thurman was chosen tem+ forary-chairman,.and, aa he proceeded
with his speech, every telling point was
punctuated with cheers and shouts of approval. It a the most successful entree
to that political stage to which his venerdted-father bade farewell a few months
since.
The platform indorsed Campbell's ‘administtation for its economy and honesty.
Cambell was_renominated for Governor
on the first-ballot.

REMORSE ENDS IN DEATH.
Cuarranooca (Tenn.), ‘ July 15.—
Judge James A. Warder, who shot and
killed his son-in-law, S. M. Fuggette, and
then dangerously wounded his daughter, .
Mrs. Fuggette, while she was trying to
save her husband's life on January Ist
las, shot and killed himself this morning.
Judge Warder was District Attorney of
this city at the time of the murder, which
was the most appalling tragedy known
in this State. Intense grief and remorse
gradually unsettled his mind until he
became but a shadow of his former self.
