WELL SPOKEN.
At Least One Sacramentan Believes
In Fair PlaySays last evening's Sacramento News :.
Our County Supervisors should listen res
spectfully to the petition of the hydraulic
ininers of Iowa Hill and vicinity. These
gentlemen, who are good citizens and taxpayers, and therefore entitled to every
consideration, ayer that their operations
will not injure the people of the valleys
and produce good reasons to back up their
statementa. If these_assertions prove
true no barrier should be placed bstween
them and_ prosperity. Wherever “the
ought to be prohibited, but if gold can
be gathéred without injuring others, the
hydraulieko#s should be given full scope
for their operations. The active hostility of some members of this community,
and especially the vindictiveness of the
Bee, has caused the mining communities
mento merchants. Here is a chance to
proffer the olive branch. Let us assure
them that our only desire is for. self protection, and that we have no intention to
harm them. ‘Then there will, be some
prospects for resuming amicable relations
and our-business_ men will speedily see
the effect in increased « business orders
from the inining counties.

galary, repairs, etc., $75.80.-——____— vey. Shortly a third corps will arrive to
claims of the district, and lastly a corps
under the direction of Mr. Becker, an eminent geologist, will arrive to ascertain
purely geological data.
A survey such as this was made of the
Comstock some yearsago under the direction of Mr. Becker and has~ proved to
be of great value. We learn, . however,
that the survey outlined to. be made here
covers an area of only from 14 to 2 miles
square, excluding the rich Randolph
oversight, if such it may be, should be
rectified, as the belts. indicated comprise
a portion of the Grags Valley mining district and some of the claims therein are
yielding profitably and are full of promise.
It is apparent that, with the engineers in . _
the field, the additional expense will be
trifling, and a complete and correct survey will be of more valueto the district
and the govérnment than a partial survey.
County Surveyor Uren has much data
that will be found of value by the gentlemen making the survey.
